For those who watched the Jabez foaling:
I would like to hear your thoughts on the Windows Media, as compared to the Unreal Media.
I know you couldn't compare two identical cams side by side, but think of the smoothness of motion, and the clarity (graininess, blockiness, etc.)
Did you miss not being able to adjust the brightness or contrast? (Jabez' cam has low contrast...that's the cam's fault, not Windows Media.)
Did you play with the size buttons?
Any input ON THE JABEZ CAM will be appreciated. If you didn't watch the foaling, or don't have a comment specifically about Windows Media, please don't post here. If you are having other issues, PM me or post them somewhere else.

I didn't get to watch it. I'm at work and I can pull up all the other cams, but the hospital blocked this one (it also blocks Popcorn's cam)

Unreal streaming is umedia - the software that all of the cams on Mare Stare run on - except Jabez farms, which is a test cam for Windows Media Player. That is the cam that I believe Rich is asking for information (feedback) on. www.marestare.com/jabez.htm

I did go and try it, like the you can increase size of screen at bottom, when I did increase I had to hit play again to start. Screen quality doesn't like good but maybe that's the cam.

Were you using FireFox, Mozilla, or Netscape? Those browsers have an issue in resizing. The only way to do it is to recreate the video window in the new size. That's why it rebuffers. Believe me if I find a way to do it without starting it over, I will fix it.

Hi, I watched the foaling at the Jabez farm yesterday. If you put the window on small, the quality looks good. If you take a larger window it seems there are not enough pixels to keep the quality up, you can see the blocks, especially if the mare or foal is moving. This makes for a lot of blur. If you take the large window, the view gets really bad, especially at night with the light on en dark outside. I use Internet Explorer 7.0 and windows XP home edition. I also have windows Media Player fully installed. Hope this gives you a better view of what is what

OK I went to the Jabez Cam 5/20 836 PM PST time: www.marestare.com/jabez.htmThanks to Heather for the link. Running on: emachine IE 7 Windows XP home edition (XPs2) Windows Media Player Fully Installed McAfee Total Protection 5/20 853 PM PST Sunday The picture isn't very good at all right now. The older umedia is a better picture imo far and away. I tried out the full screen also, and it was a mess picture wise.It was also hard to close up and get off the media center window. Pixalated and blurred. No or little sharpness to any of the sm/med/lg pix buttons. To be honest the other umedia cam pictures are better than the Jabez cam. But on this cam... the small picture is clearest. Hope this helps. The tried and true cams are the better cams picture wise right now on my machine. Yes, I really missed not being able to adjust the brightness... the baby foal on this cam gets washed out as the picture is too bright when the foal is laying down. I hope this helps. -------------------------------- BTW I think I figured out the problems I had last night and of lately also, and they may not have anything much to do with the unreal program. Virtual memory was low I found out this afternoon and needed tweakin' on my machine. Hopefully things will go more smoothly than last night from here on out.

Hi Rich, I am just now able to view the cam at Jabez. I have AOL Dial up. The cam quality in my oppinion is pretty good. Also it has a longer running stream than all of the other cams. I was able to watch actual motion for 1min 46sec. before it buffered again. The problem I have and it may likely be my computer is that I have to close out all other cams in order for this one to work. Otherwise I keep getting the "can not connect" error. When I try to change cam size it just freezes. It may just take more time than I have patience for. I may also need to do some maintenance on my pc. If you have any suggestions for me you can send me a pm so we don't clutter this thread! Well, so for now I am undecided!

142 PM PST Mon 5/21 The difference between what I saw last night and this am is truly night and day. The default setting is a clear picture. Small and Medium buttons look sharp and clear; large is a bit blurry but not bad at all. Last night I was ready to write whatever I saw off.. today it looks pretty good on the medium button. Not perfect but not bad either. The bottom of the lens seems where most of the blurryness is on Large... could it be dirty or wet? The cam is outdoors. But I see some pixalation on the large view.
