Hi Rich; I have: emachine (new) Windows XP sp2--- up to date McAfee Total Protection up to date I did a clean up this afternoon with my McAfee... and it again told me it didn't like something related to the unreal program. I am not tech savvy in any way.... Here is the error message I got... from the clean up --------------------------------- mcshell.exe-bad image The application or DLL C:\windows\Downloaded Prog. files\unreal.jpg is not a valid windows image Please check this against your Installation diskette. ----------------------------------------------- The clean-up seemed to remove it as it removed 4 plug-ins and some other stuff. Then I decided to restart the machine after the clean-up and it loaded slowly. Then I went to the internet and the IE hung up and then a window popped up and gave me a new error to report to windows. And closed IE. But I went ahead and tried to load up IE again and it worked and was able to connect this time. This hang up was similar to what I dealt with a couple nights ago... that crash was probably a hang up. Any insight on this problem? Help for this problem? I feel so frazzled now. Thanks for the help; Luv

Ok. Just had another problem. I went to a cam that wanted me to install the UMediacab.5 or something like that. It was an active x. Because of my problems with this lately... I wanted to close the pop up window and it wouldn't close. It hung up again. Then after repeated tries to close the window, windows exlorer again shut down and gave me an error to report to windows.
I sure wish I knew what was going on between my machine and what is loaded on it and the active x it wants to unstall from the UMedia. I am very frustrated.
I was tempted to go ahead and just install it like I have been doing before... but decided not to as these hang ups have me wary now.

I found out that my windows xpsp2 was not up to date as I believed; the automatic updates somehow stopped working or got turned off somehow .... so I just downloaded a herd of updates. Maybe they will help.
Already the program hangups seem to have cleared up... I will let you know if I get that unreal error message again. I am crossing my fingers now. Hopefully my computer will soon stop complaining so I can stare more again. I miss mare staring.

The activex control that Windows wants you to install when you go to a cam page is just the player for the video. If you don't install it, you can't watch the cams. The control is unsigned, but other than that there is nothing wrong with it. If McAfee won't let you install unsigned controls, you can go to Umedia and get the player and install that (it will install the exact same control, but through a different path.) www.umediaserver.net/download.htmlPick item 2...Streaming Media Player. Also, see our new help page at www.marestare.com/Help.htm for more information on installing activex controls and plugins.

Thanks Rich. I will check into this option for staring.
I got pretty frustrated and stayed away from for awhile, but I cleaned up my computer and added a herd of patches and update for windows. Still running Windows Media Player 10--- gonna wait before updating to the media player 11. I also went ahead and defragged; even though the analysis said it didn't really need defraging. The computer is surfing faster again, but I have been also staying off MS cams.
The last time I stared at MS a few days ago ... I just went ahead and ran a full scan which removed the active x and other things like a few cookies after I was done surfing for the day.
But I will look into the umedia player and see if my system would work with it . I hope it is free.
If worse comes to worse for me... I'll just stare and then do a scan and clean up after I am done staring or things start getting "unreal" on my end.
Thanks for the help, Rich. It was very helpful. I am glad to know that scary message I kept getting from McAfee isn't as bad as I was starting to think. It sounds like maybe I can get things going smoothly again. But I still won't be doing pick 6's just to be safe; that way I can watch how my emachine and it's software are acting as I surf and stare.

The new help page really was helpful... easy to understand and very clear. All who are having problems with the cams should check it out. I am not terribly tech savvy... and I was able to check my drivers with a tool I already had. Who knew? Thanks again, Rich

Just installed the "Streaming Media Player" at umedia... will give it a try and see if this makes things go easier for me by going this route. I missed the mares and babies lately.... praying things will work better this way.
