Is this right?

I was checking into horse boarding costs today and this is what I found for my area.

Stall with twice a day hay: $270.00 a month
Owner-provided grain fed twice a day 25.00 a month
Turnout 2.50 for every turnout.

Could it really be $370.00 a month? Plus vet bills, plus farrier, plus etc.

Well, that prices me out.

Now, this isn't a high-end barn either. They have riding lessons and camps for kids. Is this how much it costs now?

I used to pay $80 a month with everything included!

In my area, northwestern CT, rough board (you provide feed and do all the work) is about $250. Full board, including feed, cleaning and turn-out can run from $450 to $700. I worked in the barn when we had our big mare boarded to pay for the board. Now she's home and we trailer to a barn for lessons.

Wow. That's steep.

I was thinking that maybe the hay was expensive as there is basically none grown here in the desert. But I guess it's just that expensive to board.

When I had my horses I lived in Michigan and remember paying 1.75 to 2.25 a bale of really good stuff. Guess those days are gone forever!

I am from Northern VA and I board horses. My Field board is $350 a month, and stall board is $585. We do everthing, from holding for vet and farrier, to changing blankets and boots. So 385 for a stall is cheap for me.

Up here where we were going to board buttercup when we first got her the guy was only going charge us $30 a month in the winter. And me and Amberb1991 were going to be working there and helping him with his horses. But he is a VERY cantarcrous(sp) man. We only had her there for one month
