This is for you more experienced that I. Cookie, my Mini mare is at 319 days from her last breeding, and still no milk coming in. I just read that Banners vet said that the milk can come in AFTER the mare foals. This will be Cookies second foal. She surprised us 2 years ago and foaled outside at 5pm ! Aggggg!!!
My question: Do I start bringing he in NOW? I have been waiting for her milk to come in, but if it doesn't, then I might have a repeat of last time I would prefer our new baby be born inside in a clean stall, not out in the dirt!
It is difficult to determine if her rump muscles are looking too different. Too much winter coat. Her tail is still pretty tight also.
Soooooo to be on the safe side, should I start bringing her in at 4pm? Man, I am already a "Basket Case" about this mare foaling. At least I have the Marestare Cams to keep me sane! ;D
I should add that she is in a private paddock, no other animals around. Thanks for any & all input! ;D

It wouldn't hurt to bring her in and get her used to being inside. 320 days is MY average, but alot of people go with 330. And we have had three mares now that wait until the foal arrives before they get a bag at all, let alone milk.
Just remember - they're all different. Each preganancy can be different too and they may not follow their normal patterns.

Thanks Heather. To be on the safe side I will start bringing he in every evening. She is used to being stalled, I have brought her in during our wet & cold nights
Cookie loves all the extra attention she is getting from me. She probibly feels like a princess
Thanks for caring, and thank you for your appreciated input! ;D
