I was just going to say the same thing!!! Here are 17 that hatched Saturday! I have three more hens brooding on huge clutches! But there's no such thing as too many chickens around this place. Last week I lost a chicken a night to either a fox, opossum, coon or coyote!! I'm down to 1 big rooster and 4 big pullets! I keep all my banties and brooding hens put up!

Wow, what breed is that? I love their "fros"! My chickens are all mutts! I call them yard birds they're not really laying birdds and they're certainly not meat birds! But they eat the heck out of fleas and ticks!! That is the only reason we have chickens at all! I will not eat their eggs because they just run around and lay them all over the property so I never know if the one I'm about to crack open is good or not! SHOOOWEEEE! That's a stink I don't want in my kitchen!!!!!

LOL Those black ones with the white "fros" are white crested polish's. I LOVE this breed, they are almost overly friendly but are as blind as bats. When their crests are totally done growing all you will see is their beaks. As far as the eggs......You can always do the "Float" trick. You take the eggs and put them in cold water in your sink. If they sink they are good and if they float they are bad. If you get a partial floater its no good. We have had to rely on this method a few times as well!! Now eggs incubation period is 21-28 days....SO with that if you had three hatched on Thursday (being the 17th) the rest SHOULD be hatched by the 24th. My kids get out of school June 8th (not sure about you), but that would give you PLENTY of time to get them. Another thing you can ask your teacher to give you a call when they hatch so you can get your chick! Do you know if they were all fertilized, as in did you candle them to make sure there was a chick inside? Have fun!!

I LOVE our banties they are so cute and very friendly and have a HUGE personality!!! Normally they seem to feather in about 2 months or so and generally will start to lay at about 6-7 months (I can't remember LOL). We have one hen that is 5 this year and that is pretty darn old for a chicken but she is doing well! Banties have a bunch of fancy breeds. All mine are banties! Let us know what you get!
