I thought I would put a section for any fun horse facts people might know. For example: Why do we mount from the left side? This stems from when riders used to have swords whether it was knights, or soliders, or ? They used to wear their swords on their left hip, if they mounted from the right the sword would get hung up on the saddle so therefor they always mounted from the left. This is where we get "always mount from the left side". I was just wondering if anyone else had some fun horse facts they would like to share!!

I have heard that in dressage, the 'airs above ground' moves such as the lavade or capriole originated with mounted calvary. These moves helped horse and rider to escape if surrounded. Picture a horse surrounded by foot soldiers, and suddenly leaping vertically into the air and kicking out behind himself. --Instant escape route **EDIT**I tried to find video of it, and in the clip I found you can hear the announcer talking about the horse doing these moves to escape from the enemy Here is the clip: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dggr3EsQ1oY

ok this is a funny one but it is a good one to know if you ride in fields with cows
Cows can't turn while running so if one is "chasing" you just keep turning and at each trn they ahve to stop and turn
lol
