Well first thing I'd go to the hardware store and get some weather stripping and get your door fixed. I wouldn't wait on your landlord to do it. It's not hard to put it on your door frame.
Now I don't know if this works on your beetles, but I do know it's great on roaches. Go to the drug store and ask for Boric Acid it's a power and you can sprinkle it outside next to the wall on both sides of your door. Very little. Then I would do the same close to the wall where you find those little critters. Ask the pharmacy if it could harm your animals and DON'T let your kids touch it, but it's been used for many years for roaches and does a wonderful job. They drop like flies. I had a good friend that lived in an apt and they bug sprayed her next door neighbors and boy did she end up with hundreds of roaches. One even dropped from the celling into my glass of wine. OMG it made me sick!! I told her about this and you can't even imagine how fast she had to start cleaning out her cupboards and really every where picking up dead bugs. It was awful. But it got rid of all of them.
I haven't heard of the jar with fruit in it, but I go to our farm store and found this amazing 24 inch sticky fly trap. You have to put the *sex attractant* on it and it comes in the package. It's made by Catchmaster and called Fly Stick Glue Trap with sex attractant. Don't know what it really is, but let me tell you they all fight to land on that thing. I can fill up one in about 3 hours just in one stall from the Nat's and flys. Amazing product. You can also use it in the house, very little odor.
hope this helps you some.
