Haven't heard anything lately, I guess they are very tired from foal watching, I know I was last year when I had to do barn checks every thirty minutes all by myself. And to think she had it the day we left to go camping (silly horse, she did it on purpose!) Updated udder pics would be nice and any kind of update anytime. Kind of getting hard to patiently wait!

Hi all, WOW, thanks for checking up on us and Buttercup!! Well, still no baby!! And, yes, Shaina, we are all very tired. We are losing sleep here, but well worth it. We definitely want a healthy baby so someones pair of eyes are always on Buttercup. She keeps fooling us....she will show signs of maybe possibly going into active labor, but then she stops for some reason. We have been in touch with the vet and he just keeps telling us she is progressing and just is holding off. We are thinking maybe she just doesn't feel secure. We have only had her for 5 1/2 months and she shows signs that she loves us and trusts us. Whenever any of us go out our front door she comes to the fence (gate area) and calls for us. Then when we are out there with her, she stays real close to us so we know she trusts us but for some reason wont let go and have her baby. The poor baby is kicking and pushing out saying that it wants out!! Buttercup is 6 years old and for all her life before we got her, she was with her mom constantly. She was a "mommy's girl". Well, now we have her and the guy across the street bought her mommy, so Buttercup is always looking over toward the field where her mom is. So we are wondering if she is longing for her mom to be by her side. We give her treats and love on her and brush her and all the things you do with your horse. Do you all have any suggestions as to what maybe we can do to show her it is ok to have her baby and show her comfort? Maybe we aren't showing her something. ?? We don't know why she is holding off having her baby. Her udder is full (she wont let us look to see if it is waxing or leaking ~ the vet says that that doesn't always mean much anyways) and her tushy is very squishy and loose and her vulva ( ) is all loose and looks like it is loose enough for her to give birth. She is biting at her sides alot through the day and she has rolled (we have read where rolling is a sign of postioning the baby). She has shown all the signs of being ready. That is where we are with Buttercup. Today my daughters even made her homemade treats!! They will bring some out to her tomorrow. We are just taking one day at a time with her. I am a bit nervous because I am afraid she will have the baby on Thursday when my husband and I will be away from the house!! LOL I will have a talk with her before we go and I hope she will hold off and NOT do it while I am gone. But, my daughters will be here and they know what to do and who to call incase of. So, we are praying she either foals before Thursday or at least waits till we get home!! Thanks for all the concern and praying. We appreciate all the love!! Take care, God Bless, Tari

I was just sitting here watching Buttercup and I forgot to mention that she is just out in a field, not in a stall. We have a shelter for her and we put her in it and closed the door (a half door) and she reared up and just had a fit in there. She even broke down the door. She doesn't like being confined ~ she never had a shelter for her first 6 years of her life. So, we don't have her in a stall. Just thought I'd clear that up. LOL Tonight she has been walking around and eating lots. Tari

Thank you SO much for the update on Buttercup!! I was hoping to hear that she had her foal by now, but all in due ime I guess. You mentioned that Buttercup keeps looking across the road towards her momma, is Buttercup the only horse you have, or are there others? I'm asking, because horses are herd animals and need to be with other horses (or hooved animals such as donkeys or goats even) it all a part of thier nature. I'll keep checking in for updates on Buttercup, hoping and praying that she foals for you soon....but not on Thursday!!

Tari,
Thanks for the update on Buttercup. I'm not sure if I got the whole story on her correct. Was she pasture bred by her sire? Are they sure about the dates she was bred? What was the last date she was bred?
I think I told you before that I'm foaling out a pony mare (Marbles) that has lost two foals. We have no info on what happen to those foals, just that they died. I'm still waiting to hear the dates that she was bred. From what I remember hearing from my friend last year, she's due around April 14th. She just came in late Sunday night, and she's doing great.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Please keep us posted on how things are going and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Diane
