Hey all, new to this board! We have an arab mare thats about 20 yrs old that was sucessfully bred to our Arabian stallion, we dont have a history on the mare (prior foals) however sh caugth the second breeding and is now only 2 months away. With older mares do they usually foal early? This mare is in better shape that our 11 yr old mare.

I find the older mares are calmer and take things in stride better. She will most likely carry to full term as long as she has had proper nutrition. If she is reg perhaps you could do a search for previous owners and get more history. Feed her well these last 2 mos, be sure to get her familiar with you being VERY personal by handling her bag and vulva and rear area. Be sure to make it a pleasant experience with alot of scritching and reward for good behavior.

That is great advice. It's definitely easier to deal with a mare during foaling that has already been desensitized to the form of attention.
I 've not seen any evidence that older mares are known for foaling early. Just like any other mare if their nutrition is good, their physical condition is good, an older mare should do just fine in carrying her foal to term.
