So, my mare has been bagged up since April 18th (2 weeks) and I want to see if there is milk in it? so I can see what color it is, testing etc. How do you get it out?? I pressed on the bag, but it feels like pitting edema (firm, but can be compressed w/a little pressure, then takes a few seconds to return to origional shape). I really don't want to hurt her so that she will continue to let me check her. I don't see any wax or dripping milk?

I start at the top of the teat where it meets the bag and gently squeeze and pull downward - releasing at the end - you may have to do this alot to get it to start. We keep disposable dixie cups in the barn just for this. I use the milk test strips from Jeffers Equine. www.jeffersequine.com/ssc/product.asp?CID=1&mscssid=S2E3PM4F4P7B9M6CGVRWCKU5H4U8ENQ6 They have a complete kit (starter kit) that has all you need to test the milk - however you have to get enough milk to test.
