I have heard something and would like to find out if it is true. Are most splashed overo minis deaf? Just curious as I really like the splashed overo's and think I really really want one. But dont want to breed this only to have them be deaf. Thank you for your help.

Here is a quote from a website I found the link is... www.coloredhorses.com/PP2new.html"I was once told that all splash whites are deaf. This is not true, but there may be a higher incidence of deaf horses in the splash white line, especially in Australian-bred splash whites, where apparently they are all deaf. If anyone has any information available regarding deafness in splash whites, please email IRC. If you own a splash white, I would like to know if yours is deaf. For instance, Gambling Man is not deaf."

I have heard of at least one splash white Arabian who is deaf... Her name is Dazzling Nobility, but I'm not sure where she is now....

I never heard of this before, it's very interesting information. It's like the white boxers tending to be deaf. More genetics questions........

Or white blue eyed cats.. Found this too : www.apha.com/breed/geneticeq5.html"Some people have observed that many splashed white horses are deaf. This is not much of a problem if the trainer realizes the limitations of the horse in question, and many of these horses go on to lead full, normal and productive lives. If trainers rely on many verbal cues, though, these horses will be labeled as difficult, stubborn, and can be psychologically ruined by techniques inappropriate for a deaf animal"

Thanky you for all the information, I will probably still purchase one later on, yet only when I get better using my Parelli techniques. I find less words already work better with this one mare we have.
