Could anybody please advise me as to when my colt SHOULD have both testicles descended. He has got one already about the size of a large grape but we cannot feel the other. He is only 10 weeks old and we were surprised to find one at all! Cheers

Hi, Appearently they are prone to "thumbling" for some time during early development. I have heard they both should be dropped in the right place by the time the colt is two, latest. But according to the following link, it could be longer. www.horse-sense.org/archives/20030607120200.phtmlIt looks as if at his age you donĀ“t need to worry yet. Emma

Generally I have seen that most colts are dropped by 6 months. However depends on the day too LOL. Some days you will see two and another day you may only see one. The theory now is the sooner you geld the bigger the hose will get. They used to say leave em a colt as long as possible to help with growth but that has been proven wrong.

Thanks emma and bndranch, that is a help. I have also spoken to his sire's owner and he did not drop both of his until he was two, which is why he ended up being a stallion instead of a gelding - he was sooo good natured and easy to handle, they decided to keep all his bits in place!!
