OK,,, now I probably have a very silly question here. My mare which I have washed her udder untold times before and after birth, has two milk ducts on each of her teats. I have not noticed this on any of my other mares....But I may be getting old and have never noticed this before. Is this normal? If it is I sit here with egg on my face.

that is what she should have. Each teat has 2 holes, front and back per teat. Each hole is actually fed by multiple tubules and so the milk will squirt in several directions from each hole when the milk lets down.

I'm not sure if you are talking about the big milk veins or something else. In the case of milk veins yes a mare will have two that run into the udder. Pea's will get enourmous before she foals.

Thanks Steph, that's what I wanted to know. After all these years and I never really noticed. My other mares aren't pregnant now so it is hard to compare. I just love learning something new!!!!
