Camera info

I have a wireless camera that I have used for a couple of years but I have never put them online, what do you have to do to get them viewable online?? I dont get it, its it just sftware to download somewhere , dose the camera have to be sitting next to the computer, I hav e a lap top i move it around. Help me understand.
