Anyone know of an affordable barn cam that is in about $100-200 range or less . I'm just looking around now to get an idea of what's out there. I know about Saddlebrook Barn Cams, but that is more than what I want to pay. I was really wanting to set it up on Mare Stare for next year. Oh, and Heather, what's the deal about setting up your own message board on the MareStare Message board. Thank you everyone who can help me ;D.

There are several different types of cams that work well - alot depends on your setup. How far is your barn or foaling stall from the house? Can you do wired (cheaper) or do you have to have wireless?
Lucy's cam is a webcam 4000 which is approximately $90, but there has to be a computer close by as the cord to the cam is only 6' long. There are security cams available to Sam's...lots of options, but depends on your setup.
The message board is free for all Mare Stare customers. All you have to do is ask to have one!

I am going to have to go wireless. We don't have any electric hookups at the barn just a light. Our barn is probably about 450-500ft away...?

For the web cams do you have to have internet in the barn to work that? Cause we were thinking of going that way and have a laptop that could be setup in the barn but no internt out there.

Talk to Bill at Barncams.com. He may be able to help you - he's a very, very nice man. You may want to check on Ebay too. I just don't know of any wireless cams that are in the price range you're looking for. That doesn't mean they don't exist...it just means that I don't know about them. You have to have access to the internet to use the little webcams. They hook into the computer and then you need to be able to reach internet. It can be wireless internet though - it doesn't have to be wired. So get a laptop with a wireless card in it - and set up a wireless router in the house. But make sure the wireless will reach to the barn (wireless internet).

Shaina,
If you have a light in your barn, does it have a light bulb in it or is it a florescent bulb? If it has a normal bulb you can buy an adapter that gives you a place to plug things in.
We have a wannabe barn set up right now and I have a power cord and phone lines going from the house to the barn. It doesn't look great, but it works.
The cameras I use don't need power at the barn, but I'm not sure I can get them online. I'll be checking on that over the next few days. I really want to get this mare pony mare online, so I can get help watching her. Diane

The light that I have is basically a street light. I don't think there is anyway of running things off of it.?.
