Hi All, I am new to this board, and have a question. Just got a new Falabella mare, 27 inches tall, in foal and due any day. Shaping up nicely, but the thing is..... We were told that last years foal was a red bag birth. Foal made it thru birth, stood, nursed, and lived for 3 days before the nasty neighbor (actually admitted to it) poisoned the baby. I am now worried, as I have never had any experience woth this type of birth. All of my other mares, (full sized mares) just do their thing. We watch them, but they always fool us. Have not lost one yet, thankfully, but this whole red bag thing kinda has me wondering. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

This link has a section on red bag deliveries, possible causes for them and how to handle them. I think there is also a video on that site showing a red bag delivery and what the owners did. www.lilbeginnings.com/links/info/breeding/Hope you have a nice, normal foaling!!
