I usually don't post much on bb's unless I have a question or somthing to say, but I was in a car crash today and one of the things that limited the amount of injury was the Fords safety features which include the crumple design. First off I am 14, so I am driving on a learners permit (you can drive with somone over the age of 18) I was on my way to my last day of driving with an instructor and I was driving, my mother in the passanger side. I was driving about 55mph and was on a road that does not stop, coming up to a cross road that had to stop. The lady in the other car thought it was a 4 way stop, comes up, stops and sits there. As I am entering the intersection she pulls out and there was no time to react and I nailerd her on the drivers door, she spun around and hit the back of are car and then went into a yard and caught fire. I will say the airbags felt nice! I am so glad that I don't leave the driveway without putting my seat belt on, I would have been through the winshield and on her car without it. Someone was watching over all of us, everyone was alright. The lady had two toddlers and got them out, before the police even got there their car was covered in flames. It was not recognizable, it was burnt to the ground. Our car was totalled, our brand new 2006 Ford Escape. Everyone had brusies and cuts. When the police saw our car they were looking for worse. Paramedics came, tons of police, it was pretty scary. I had to do a statement, but I am at no fault. She got a ticket for failure to yeild and for an expired drivers licence. This is not long after the crash. Nothing in the cab smashed. It's a great car and without it the outcome could have been different.

I certinly did. It was amazing that no one came out of that seriously injured.
I am still in a state a shock, it does not seem like reality to me yet, that I was in a car crash that could have been very serious, besides beign sore, I feel like there was never a wreck.

In Kansas you can get your learners permit at 14, restricted at 15, and your full at 16. Suprisingly, there are not many accidents thay happen with 14yo's. You can tell I live in a small town everyone knows about it already lol! I am better today, I think a sprained my wrists, going to try a baking soda bath, Chero said it should help. I hope it does, supposed to be riding tomarrow

Glad you and everyone else came out of that OK, Lindsey, but I have a little driving advice for you: When approaching a 4-way intersection, even if you have the right of way, slow down just a bit and watch any other cars at the intersection - it sometimes helps if you look directly at the other driver(s) for a second. Drive defensively! P.S. I believe that in the Midwest, kids are allowed to get their licenses younger in order that they can help around the farms.

With half the tents they have now a days you can barely see the other drivers! In Kansas you can get a farmers permit at 14, where you can drive to school and work, I think that is scary! Mary, right now I have no desire to drive, before the accident I loved driving. Tell your son to be careful when he starts, it's amazing how fast something bad can happen!

Mary, right now I have no desire to drive, before the accident I loved driving. Tell your son to be careful when he starts, it's amazing how fast something bad can happen! Well, don't let this experience stop you from driving, or learning. Take a few minutes, talk about what happened(You and your mom should do this together), talk about how to avoid it happening again, share a hug and/or a cry.(Believe me it helps!) If you're still insecure behind the wheel after a couple of days. Pull over, take a deep breath, and tell yourself(with conviction) "It was just a chance accident. I have nothing to be worried about." I have to take a deep breath every time something could go wrong when I'm on the road now. Everytime a turn signal goes on, everytime someone chages lanes in front of me. Accidents can be very tramatic, but you can't let them alter your life, unless you were hurt badly.

I have driven once since the accident, I had to get back on the road and finish drivers ed. We have gotten the new car, it's the exact same, and it is a little freaky sitting in it, it reminds me of the accident. It will just be a little bit more time till I will feel better on the road.

I live in Kansas too (Outside of Kansas City). I'm going to be 17 next week and have had a permit since I was 15, but I only started driving a lot in the past couple of months.
I opted not to start driving until I was older because 1) I was afraid and didn't think I was ready, and 2) Because by not learning to drive at 14 gave me almost 3 years to memorize the roads. I know my way around town very well, well except for downtown/north of town I'm not to familiar with that.
I am looking to get my liscense before school starts though, it'll be nice to be able to drive myself to school.

There is a big difference in driving around Kansas City KS and surrunding areas compared to driving in Louisburg. Even on the highway, there is not much traffic. I don't like driving up north yet. I want to get my restricted pemit so I can get a job (then maybe I can get some more horse stuff that my parents think is worthless ;D ) Also, it would be nice to drive to school. I live less then 10 mins away from school, yet the bus ride there is 45 mins! Thats 30 more minutes I could sleep in

well where i live you have to be 16 to get a permit and then if you have had a permit for a minimum of 6 months when you turn 17 then you get you licesense. But for me i got my permit late and now i am 17 and i still have to wait 1 month and 19 days till i get my license. But the funny thing is i don't have a licenese but i have a car. Which means i am being tortured having to stare at my beautiful car, (which has been sitting on the street for like a month), from the house knowing that I still can not drive it
