86 degrees is hot? Haha. Also, I highly doubt he's albino, since that doesn't exist in horses. He's probably cremello. Interesting nonetheless!

I saw a picture of him somewhere. He's grey. And another source I looked at said he had a skin condition (not albinism) that made his skin blister easily or something like that.

my horse gets horrible sunburns on her face. she has a big blaze and at the bottom of her nose all of the skin is extremely light pink. she gets sunscreen on every day in the summer along with a fly mask with teh extra long nose to help keep the sun off. the first summer i had her i had no idea this would happen and the poor girl got a horrible sunburn resulting in the fur falling out on her nose :-( thankfully it has all grown back now and we're prepared each summer with a couple bottles of water babies!!!

The best thing I've found to deal with sunburn is Desitin. I have a number of horses with white on their noses and I just slather the stuff on. It heals up the burns as fast as it does the diaper rash on a baby's bottom. It sticks on better than sun screen and so protects them better from more burning. I buy it in the large tubs whenever I can find it.

WOW! 86 degrees! That's hot for there. But what I wouldn't do for an 86 degree day here. We have been in the mid to high 90's with very high humidity forever it seems. Heat index has been 105 thru 110. The llamas are enjoying their swimming pool and daily sprayings. Pretty bad when my llamas have a pool and I don't. LOL. Really have to watch horses with pink skin. I know many who keep them in during the day and let them out at night to graze. They can now tattoo eyeliner around eyes that have pink skin as is common in bald faced horses. This helps with the eye irritations/infections that the sun can cause with these horses. From what I understand APHA allows this since it's considered a preventative health thing not cosmetic.

Desitin works so well as a preventative because it's the best one out there---zinc oxide. Which you might know as the white stuff lifeguards put on their noses and lips. It's the best sun block ever, but most people don't like being white and it does sweat off of humans.
My poor long suffering husband is a redhead who loves the beach. We've found that Bullfrog makes the BEST most sweat resistant sunblock ever. Matt can spend 8 hours on the sand and in the water with just an early morning application and a lunch time reapplication and never burn.

It was 108 here yesterday, and my air conditioner choose to quit working. Not a funny for me. I went and spent most of it in the shade with the horses. The air conditioner was fixed around 6 p.m. last night. We had lots of clouds and thunder but no rain.
