I got kicked today- sqaure in the thigh. I'm going to have one WICKED horseshoe-shaped bruise there later today or tomorrow. It is already pretty red and swollen and I can barely walk. The first few steps are brutal, but the tight muscles loosen up a bit after I've been walking for a while. My horse doesn't really like a whole lot of other horses. He's a gelding, but he wasn't gelded until he was 5, so he becomes very studdish around other horses- especially other geldings. I was in the washrack and my trainer came in with one of his horses and put him in the set of crossties next to us. I was trying to shove my horse's butt over so I could use the sweat scrapper on his other side, and I guess the other horse looked at him funny and he fired out a kick behind him, right where I was standing. I know he wasn't kicking at me, but it hurts like HELL! My fault, I should have been paying attention to what the other horse was doing. I'm lucky though- 6 inches lower and it would have been a knee-cap. OW!

Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.
And in front of your trainer. Did you hide it well? Have some ice. And Ibuprofen.

I second the hiding it from your trainer lol...that can lead to teasing and nicknames for a like time!
Hope you're alright. I've been kicked there before and I go to a uniform school so everyone was asking why I had a horseshoe marked bruise on my leg. Hmm, you'd think they'd guess? When you feel it jiggling wrap it with a tensor bandage so the blood doesn't run down to your knee, it's very ugly when it does. Take it easy and keep taking Advil/Asprin/Ibuprofen!!

I got kicked in the knee. Luckily I was riding when it happened or I would have had some serious damage done. It knocked my kneecap out as it was. But to make matters worse was when I got down. I didn't know my leg was useless. So my leg just dropped and I jammed my toes in my boot. Ended up with a broken toe. The paramedics were going to cut my boot off but I wouldn't let them. "Do you know how expensive these things are?" LOL. Bad enough they cut my jeans to put on an inflatable splint. I was black and blue and swollen from my knee to the bottom of my foot. My toe and foot hurt worse than my knee. This accident was my fault. I was taking a shortcut across a pasture to some trails. There was a mare there that could be a butt sometimes about other horses in her pasture. I knew better but was in a hurry to hit the trails. Put me out of the saddle for 3 months.

It may be for horses, but Absorbine Liniment(sp?) is great for the muscles and pain. I broke a bone in my and and had painfull bruised knuckles for weeks. Even after the bone was healed and I didn't have to wear the splint, the pain and the shadows of the bruising were still there. I have liniment for my mare(she was getting a little stiff from time to time) and I applied it by hand to the joints. I actually got relief from my pain, stiffness, and the last of the bruising faded from it.

Ugh. I have turned a lovely shade of violet, as of this point. It hurts to walk, it hurts to move.. ouch, ouch, ouch!
It is not a pretty site. It's very swollen, and you can definately see bright purple all the way around the half-horseshoe mark right on my thigh. I am SO happy it wasn't any lower, because he would have broken my knee for sure.. ouch!

Regret, are you sure you don't have a cracked or broken bone? Might want to have it checked just to make sure, if you haven't already. Yes, you were lucky. Hope you get to feeling ouchless soon.

Ow! Been there, done that!! When I was about 9 or 10 by a massive Tennessee Walker that was over 17 hands who had plates on. Knocked me down and rolled me a few times. I had a bruise that turned every color of the rainbow and didn't completely fade for 4-5 months. It's a wonder he didn't break my leg! Ice, ice, ice! Hope you feel better!

I hope you are doing fine. We were doing our mini's teeth when he decided he had had enough and came down on my knee. We ended up according to the vet looking like a game of Twister. I do hope your leg gets better though.

I can walk better today, at least!

oouch.. I feel for you.. I was just recently kicked in the groin and upper thigh, it was a double header, both hooves... I was being stupid, and moved my mare that foaled 3 days prior into a stall next to my stallion, solid wall no way he could get to her, but she heard him breathing throught the wall, and turned and wham.. got me good.. I had my 3 daughters and one of my oldest daughters friends with me, so I told them to un lock the gate 3 times before they didi (shock) and then went to sit on a bale of straw.. had to lay down thought I was going to pass out.. this happened on a saturday, rested all day sunday with ice ect... went to work on Monday, but 1 pm my pelvic and thigh to knee where so sore and swollen I went to the ER, luckily I work in a hospital lab, they said I was very very lucky not to have a bone broke.. and slapped my hand about not coming in when it happened.. bad me... anyways, I hope you heal well...
