hey everyone!! i just wanted to share what happened today at the clinic i was in. it was with mark russell a man who lives in tennessee but travels the country teaching. i don't know if anyone's taken lessons with him but i reccomend him. he has a very gentle manner with the horses and you can actually see the changes in the horse right in front of you. also he's easy to understand and will explain something 100 times if you don't get it ;D oh he wrote a book called Lessons in Lightness as well. anyways, mollie was very well behaved despite being inside since 1 o'clock yesterday (it's been so hot all the horses have been in their stalls with their fans on ) this was the second time i've ridden with mark and he was shocked at how much mollie remembered from our first lesson. also he was surprised at how quickly she picks up on things. he does a lot on the ground with the horse isolating their shoulders, neck, hind end, etc. and using a dressage whip and the reins moves them all around to loosed them up. after a few circles mollie was moving away (laterally) before mark even touched her with the whip lol. and the best part was mollie actually had drips of foam falling from her mouth to the ground!!!! a first for her lol!!!! so i was very happy with the ride ;D

I have never seen Mark but I have talked to a few who have. They say he is wonderful and is so caring when it comes to the horse. Doesn't rush things and makes sure the horse understands what he's asking of it before going on. I really like that. I don't believe in rushing things. If it takes a while that's ok. It's probably my fault for not explaining it well enough to the horse anyway. Or in my case now, it's llamas. Same principle though.

he is EXTREMELY patient!!!! he rode one of the horses there a swedish warmblood mare who is always very cautious about trying new things. after asking her something mark waited patiently asking repeatedly (but slowly) for atleast 6 minutes while the horse stood at complete standstill. i've never seen such patience!! wish i had it lol
