I just traded a pony of ours for a new mare. She three years ago with her last foal, "foal foundered" It was caused because the owners fed her up with so much grain when she did not need it. She is a VERY easy keeper.
Well my question is will I have any difficulties with breeding her next spring becuase shes done this before? I do not grain my mares unless they really need it. And usually only start graining them in the last trimester to give them a little extra to help baby grow.
Any info on this would be great thanks!
Oh also this mare that I am talking about so far sense we have had her she is producing milk.. Not sure if she does this all the time. But she is a very fertile mare so maybe that has a factor in it? She is not prego and last baby she had was three years ago and she lost it cause of the foal founder. Shes had 6 other live foals though.

How long ago did she lose the foal? I think that you take very good care of her and watch her diet you will not have problems with her foaling but that is just my opinion. We had a mare that lost her first two foals everyone told me to sell her she would not be a producer, but so far she has produced 4 health live foals since.

She lost it three years ago. Before we ever had her. It was caused cause they just POURED the grain on her when she did not need it at all.. it was her seventh foal.
