Yes, I may have to resort to gloves. I try not to use them because they interfer with my sense of touch. Because I don't see well, I really use my others senses a lot to compensate. And with the horses my sense of touch is really honed. But I guess it it's the only way I can get this fixed I will have to give it a try.
I'm beginning to think, though, that Trouble didn't chew Vee's mane. It's looking now like she's rubbing it out because of fungus! YUK. I thought I had her all cleared up. So I will be treating that first and then seeing what I've got. Seems to always be something with them.

I should have done this post yesterday. It was just the strangest feeling to pick up the phone and have the voice on the other end tell me that she was watching the twins on the webcam and it looked like the colt was cast. So a big THANKS to Stephanie for taking the time to call and let me know he was stuck. He was really, really stuck. He knows how to get up if he can wiggle his knees down against the wall for leverage but there was no way this was going to work. I'm grateful that she called and I could get him flipped over before something happened to him. Stephanie says she's not a registered user but watches all the time. I'm grateful that she was there. And Trouble was sure glad to see me. He looked up at me with those big eyes of his and let out a huge sigh. Hopefully he won't be doing this for a while...............

And Dave who has been muttering from the beginning about "Big Brother watching" has decided that maybe it's not such a bad idea after all to have people watching them. He was right on my tracks on the way out to the barn to rescue the colt. I didn't know the fat old man could run that fast! Now he's talking about built in baby sitters ;D

Hey MiKael ~ This is Stephanie. It was my pleasure to let you know about little Trouble. I would have felt terrible if something would have happened to him! I think I would find it a little unnerving to have Big Brother watching "me" all of the time too but I can definitely see the benefits of it when there are issues/problems! It was great chatting with you the other day and I look forward to meeting the twins at your open house as I'm pretty sure I'll be there.

Anyone who watches the twins regularly probably knows that they can be quite the characters. Today, was no exception. Lindsay came in from the barn giggling after cleaning their stall. Lindsay usually will leave the fresh shavings in a pile for the horses to spread. It's a ritual here for the Legs' babies (grown all the way down to small frys) to expect to spread their own shavings and the twins as grandget have been no exception. But today, Trouble thought they needed more than just spreading. Also, he would not let Surprise help in the fun. He ran her off, painstakingly pawed, struck and spread the shavings and when the pile was pretty well flattened, he returned to the center of it and jumped up and down on it, like he was stomping them into the ground. Lindsay couldn't quite laughing trying to tell the story and I missed yet another Kodak moment with the goofball Oh, and Surprise sulked because she missed out on the fun..............

When foals chew on manes or tails I have used the green palmolive dish soap. It works, I had 6 foals with 6 short tailed mares. Even a couple geldings got their tails chewed thru the fence. When I put the soap on the tails, the foals stopped chewing. Didn't like the bubbles in their mouths. lol

Hi Stephanie, I'm looking forward to meeting you at our open house. Things are getting a little tense here getting ready for the event. Still haven't braved clipping the twins yet, but their time is coming soon............

Well, don't know if anyone has noticed but the twins meet the clippers on Wednesday. Both of them got their faces clipped and their fetlocks and white socks and little bridle paths. (I didn't do their ears) They did pretty well. Both were nervous at first but hung in there ok. Their coats are that funky baby fuzz even though they shed out once already. Once we gave them their first fungus bath, that hair just went sprong and won't lay down. Normally I would clip a foal like that clear down to the shoulder so you could see how pretty their throatlatches and necks are but with the health issues they've had, I didn't feel comfortable with that and just did their faces like a show clip. So they have chunky looking jowls that is really just baby fuzz. I think they both got the itches just like me because they kept trying to rub their faces on us, but other than that it was pretty uneventful. Just what you want for a first experience with the clippers. Will touch the clip up once before the open house and probably do their ears and then they'll officially be "show horses" Of course, you know the part of this story I didn't tell is what each was doing while the other was being clipped. It took 3 of us to pull this off because someone had to hold the clippee, someone had to clip and someone had to occupy the OTHER twin. Rachel got the job of occupying the other twin. Trouble gave her the run around. I think she actually worked up a sweat keeping him out of our hair. Surprise got past her and got into the barn and tangled in the other clipper cord and drug it back into the stall. Thank goodness she didn't freak out and get hurt or kill my clippers. As it is I'm limping along on two pairs of clippers that are trying to die. They did the usual pushing and shoving and trying to get into the center of things but I think it only took us an hour to get them both clipped. Not bad for those two.
