I'm taking 3 horses to the Daffodil Arabian Summer Show this weekend. They are my stallion, Scandalous Legacy, one of his sons, Scandalous Rhythm and then my older gelding, Scandal Sheet (Dandy). My granddaughter, Rachel has Dandy at a facility over by her house and has been taking lessons on him for about 6 months. She's the only one riding him so guess you'd say she's learning how to train horses. This will be their first Arab show. So that's very exciting (she's 13). This will be my first show with me riding Legs in the western pleasure amateur division. He's been shown a couple of times before western but not with me riding. And it will the first time for Rhythm to be shown under saddle. So we're breaking lots of new ground here. It should be fun!
Even though the show grounds are close (14 miles) I'll be leaving now and not back until late and the next 2 days will be more of the same except for my depart time which will be 5 am.
Everything with the twins is stable. I'll be treating Surprise's fungus early in the morning and that will be it for me. Lindsay, of course, will be here feeding, watering and cleaning stalls. So you guys are my eyes and ears. If there's a problem my cell number is 253-444-8743. If the cam is down just call the house, Lindsay and Dave have instructions on how to get it back up. House number is 253-846-1597.
Wish US luck!!!

While I was gone to the show, did anyone see Trouble chewing on Vee's mane. There's a huge hunk missing in the middle. Lindsay said she found a clump in the stall but didn't think much of it. I found the gap this morning and was NOT happy. She's supposed to be a show horse next year!!
If anyone saw anything, please let me know. Knowing it was him for sure will help me decide how to stop future occurences. I have this thing for long flowing manes and I can't be letting them chew it off.
Will check back later for info and to tell you about the show. But for now ;D this covers it!!
OH, yeah, I met a Mare Stare watcher at the show. How cool is that!! Hi codiie!!

I watched off and on this weekend too, but saw nothing unusual either...mostly they were looking out the window or resting! Sorry I couldn't help with the 'missing mane" dilemma.

Every time I tuned them in, they were sleeping like little angels. But i haven't had much time for staring, so I missed whatever appetites wore them out. Happy sleuthing!

i didn't see him do it either - sneaky guy if it was him lol. anyways, i suggest trying something called Calm Coat on vee's mane. it comes in a small bottle and it's a yellow gel that you put right on the spot that has been pulled out. it worked awesome for me!!! and if trouble is pulling her mane maybe you should french braid it so he can't get at it?? good luck lol.

He is a sneaky guy and the reason I suspect him is because I caught him a while back chewing on her mane when she way laying down. So that makes him my number one suspect. I'm open to trying anything. Where would I find Calm Coat? Don't recall that I've seen it anywhere.

Put MTG (MGT???) on her mane - it'll help it grow and I would think the greasyness of it would keep him away. I think it smells like bacon grease...yum.

It's MTG and I think saying it smells like bacon grease is being way to kind. I hate using that stuff because I can't get the smell off my skin for what seems like days. But I do use it on horses that are rubbing their tails. Hadn't thought of it for this. Guess I'll try but YUK.............I'll have to smell that stuff ALL DAY LONG on my hands. Still would like to catch the little varmit............... and for those of you that saw them resting all day, I checked them on the cam before I left in the mornings (about 5 am Pacific time) and with the antics at that hour, my guess is they needed to recuperate the rest of the day! They were not adhering to the doctor's orders for stall rest I can tell you. Trouble was chasing Surprise around trying to mount her, biting her on the whithers and the hocks. Then she decided she'd had it, reared up over him, clunked in in the head with her hoof and chased him around biting at him. He slid into the wall face first and so on and so on. Vee stood off to one side quietly gleaning remnants of hay, so I'm pretty sure this is a regular occurrence for the wee hours of the morning. It's no wonder they don't get up for breakfast.....they're exhausted.

Oh, I forgot to tell you how we did at the show..........so here's the skinny.......
I think that Legs and Rhythm had a little hip flinging battle in the horse trailer because both had a rub mark on the challenging hip and were having spasms in the back when I went to saddle them to school them at the show. Each was stiff to one side and so not as light as normal and wanted to be a little strong. Rhythm was swapping leads behind at the lope and did so in his class so got a ribbon but...... He was however, quite good for his first class under saddle. Legs was just not as light as he normally is but tried his best. He got reserve in one class, nothing in the other. Rhythm didn't show his second class because he was naughty warming him up and I didn't have time to fix it before they called us so I scratched him. Also scratched Legs for his championship because by then it was evident that his back was a little sore. Don't want him to associate showing with pain.
Rachel, my 13 year old grand daughter showed my 16 year old gelding and did awesome. It was her first Arab show. She showed at one schooling show this spring in walk only and walk/jog classes and had a melt down because she felt so pressured but that was all resolved by this show. She's only been riding him in the full bridle (curb with romel reins) for a week. They won their first class, PB Western Pleasure JOTR 13 & under. Picked up a wrong lead in her second class, PB Western Pleasure JTR 13 & under. Got a 3rd in her Showmanship 17 & under (even though the darn horse refused to jog away from the judge). Was Champion in the PB Western Pleasure JTR 17 & under and in the PB Western Pleasure JOTR 17 & uncer even though she was competing against the older kids and one of the top 17 & under western riders in the country! But in his first class, his horse was naughty one direction but the second class he had a nice ride and was Reserve Champion to Rachel and Dandy! I can tell you that is one proud kid! Now, the horse, he was proud just to be packing that kid. He had the sweetest expression on his face the whole time she was riding him. I was very proud of him and, of course, her.
Dandy is not in training. Rachel takes lessons on him twice a week and does most of the riding on him. In the 5 months that she has had him at the lesson barn, I have ridden him maybe six times and that includes the 3 times I rode him at the show. He is not an easy horse to ride. He had EPM and it's taken me ten years to get him finished as a western pleasure horse. He is very soft but needs constant reminders, lots and lots of leg to keep him round. While he is not as round for Rachel as he is for me, he is very close to being there. My guess she'll have it by spring and there will be no stopping them. They already ride like they are one being and he looks like she's not even doing a thing when I know she's working her butt off. She wants to grow up and train horses for her grandma and I'm pretty sure she has the talent to do it. Now if I can just keep this place running long enough for her to be able to do it. She's one amazing kid! ......................and he's my first baby and one very amazing horse...........

awww sounds like you had a blast!!! and sounds like rachel and dandy are a very special pair. as for where to find calm coat i get it at local tackstores around here but i heard someone at our barn say they were able to get a bottle at wal-mart in the pet section (i guess it's primarily used for cats and dogs).
