stick your thumb in the back of her mouth (where there aren't any teeth) that usually works - maybe your horse doesn't like the current bit either - that would make her hesitate opening her mouth.

you stick your thumb in WAYY in the back where there aren't any teeth - your thumb goes right where the bit lays when it's in her mouth. if you put it in the right spot she won't be able to bite you because there aren't any teeth there.

She will not bite you if you have your thumb in the right place. She can't bite you. I suggest you get an experienced person show you how to gently insert the bit into her mouth. Are you trying to shove it into her mouth? If so you are hitting her front teeth and this hurts. Go to horses.about.com/od/choosingandusingtack/ss/bridlinghowto.htm This has step by step instructions and pictures. Click on next under the pic for the next step. This site has other topics that may interest you. It's a good site for beginners.

yes - maybe you should consider getting a trainer or someone more knowledgable about horses out to help you?? i'm not saying this to be mean but i think it would be much safer and much more fun for both you and your horse that way.

I agree with Tinypony. You sound young and very inexperienced, What is best for you and your horse is a trainer.Don't ever Force a Horse to do something it does not want to..YOU and the horse can get hurt. That said if you don't know how to treat lameness and You GET BACK onthis horse you NEED someone to teach you, from the ground up. a good trainer WILL help you.Until then I would advise you NOT to ride the horse OR mess with bits.

Good for you! You'll have more fun now and so will your horse. You will know what and what not to do and will get the most out of riding resulting in a more pleasurable ride. Getting help shows maturity. We all need help and advice sometimes. Even the pros. Good luck and happy trails.

wait for your trainer to show you the Correct way to do it. You keep messing and you'll have a Horse who will Not Cooperate. The Key word is WAIT for someone who can show you IN person....work on groundwork and Gain your horses Trust!

i know my mare really enjoyed a copper bit and i know a few people who say that mares are happier with the copper. i would wait and talk it over with your trainer first however because he/she will know more about the kind of bit and how it will effect your horse.
