Sounds like its been a frustrating few weeks and like there's been some good times. Vee probally can't wait for them to be weened, even though I've watched her push them away from time to time. She's starting the process for you. Surprise looks like the pushy one, she's always got her nose in Vee's hay or Trouble's hay. lol

The twins cam has been down for a couple of days. It's currently back up but we'll see how long it stays there.
The weather has been wet here and they've not been getting outside but on their last day out one of them jumped the fence to get in with the other horses. I was up on Storm at the time (4 year old stallion that I'm just starting under saddle) and I heard this wierd noise coming from that direction. I glanced over to see the horses all running around and one of the twins on the wrong side of the fence. From the angle I thought it was Trouble. Since the field had 5 of my Leg's daughters in it and a couple of them are in heat, I figured he thought he could do a better job of flirting with them on that side of the fence. Lindsay went running into the paddock to get the foal and I hopped off of Storm and sent Colleen to help LIndsay. About that time the foal jumped back over the fence to rejoin her mom and brother. It was Surprise who had gone to visit her aunts. Don't know why, but she obviously didn't think it was as much fun as she first thought to jump back so quickly. She didn't have a mark on her but we'll have to get that fence fixed before they can go back out there. There's no point in pushing our luck and having her get banged up. Not to mention, giving Trouble ideas on how to get closer to the girls.

The twins finally got to go outside today and they were pretty excited about it. Lindsay took Vee because there was no way I was going to be able to handle all three of them. They had way too much pent up energy. Surprise pranced all the way out with her tail rolled over her back snorting and blowing at everything that moved. With the wind, there was a lot that moved. But she was good about it and stayed really light to pressure on the lead which is very impressived considering her age etc. Trouble on the other hand was fairly quiet (compared to his sister, not really quiet) and he pretty much follows Surprise's lead. If she starts at something, he sucks back and sometimes even stops all together. It's pretty amusing trying to keep him up with her. I'd say he's definitely a mama's boy even though he is the lowest on the pecking order in that stall. He does roll his tail over his back and snort, but only if his sister does first. And even loosed he's always watching her to see if he should be frigthened of something. There interactions outside are sure fun to watch. Surprise is still looking for a way out of that paddock. Although I'm not sure she'll be jumping anymore fences anytime soon.

Did anyone see that little snot, Surprise, kicking at me this morning? She thought she was going to run me off from the food and when I pushed her away from it, she casually turned her butt to me and then kicked at me. So I chased to off to make sure she understands I'm the herd boss and I can take her food if I want to. She ran around the other side of mom and glared at me. She's really going to be a handful. She does know she's supposed to mind but she keeps hoping that she's going to get her chance to be in charge. Trouble, on the other hand, has it pretty much figured out that he's low on the pecking order no matter who is around. He was off in the corner eating hay and moving off anytime I even looked at him. He's definitely comfortable with someone else being in charge.

Well, I'm sure hoping that she'll learn that I'm the boss but I think right now her mother let's her do about anything she wants and that's a big part of her thinking she should rule this world. I think we'll make the most progress when they are weaned and she doesn't have Vee to hide behind anymore.

Surprise and Trouble are scheduled for another trim this week. Their little feet grow so darn fast, we're having problems keeping ahead of the growth with the corrective trimming. Both foals hooves roll over at the back when they grow and that interferes with the corrections. Trying to stay ahead of that has been a chore but if we hope to get their little legs normal we need to. The vet tells me the rolling over is caused by the abnormal weight bearing from the angular limb deformity. So I guess we're caught in a cycle we need to find our way out of.
Neither foal really likes the trimming process. Trouble feels insecure and wants to be up against a wall for security. Surprise feels clostrophobic against a wall and wants to be trimmed in the middle of the stall without a bunce of people holding her either (but she doesn't really want to stand still for just the vet either). They are so funny, so different and yet so much the same.
They had company yesterday, for the first time in a while. They both raced up to the door to greet him. They've sure missed being the center of attention. He was quite impressed with how friendly they are. Trouble buried his head in Lloyd's hands to get a special rubdown. Lloyd had never seen a foal be so trusting. It was pretty cool. In the meantime, Surprise was trying to sneak through the people door to get food. She was untying my shoelaces thinking that would distract me so she could slip by. Sometimes I really do think the wrong one is named Trouble.

LOL! Sounds like Trouble is a sweetheart, and Surprise is a troublemaker! It's a joy to hear about their personalities as they age. Give them all lovin' from me!
