I'm gone to a clinic here for the weekend. Left at 6 this morning and didn't say goodbye to the twins. Surprise has voiced her displeasure about being neglected by pinning her ears and pouting. Trouble just wants to get some lovin to make up for the lost time.

We live in one of the counties that has been declared a disaster area due to flooding. We have a seasonal creek that runs across the entire length of our property. It looked pretty good yesterday despite the flooding everywhere else (maybe because it was still dry before these storms started) but today it is over it's banks and getting higher all of the time. It still has a ways to go to get to my barn but if the rain doesn't stop soon we will be in trouble.
My round pen is under water and our pond is also about ready to overflow. The drain that runs from it to the creek can't accommodate all of the rain. If that overflows it will flood my other barns. Like that's not enough, the winds have been very high at times and have evidently loosed some of the screws in the roofing and we have major leaks going on everywhere. The stall the twins were born in is soaked and there are several more with major leaks. These were all dry last winter.
If that's not enough, we have a leak in the house as well. We have a relatively new roof so this may be a wind related issue too.
The rain is supposed to let up here sometimes today or tomorrow, I think and then hold off a day or two before it returns. Hopefully, that will be enough time for most of this water to come down. In the meantime, prayers this direction would be appreciated, I don't really want to have to find out if Trouble and Surprise know how to swim. But I'll bet the little devils would love it.

Praying it doesnt get to bad for you Mikael. If l could take some of that rain for you l would. We are on 'stage 3' water restrictions here. No watering lawns, or gardens, no washing cars, windows or anything else that isnt necessary. Crops have failed and farmers are baling them as hay instead of harvesting grain. Hay prices have gone from $8.00 per bale for lucerne (alfalfa?) to $22.00 in just 3 weeks. Other feed has also go up as well.

Thanks everyone for the prayers. I've been complaining most of the fall that we needed some rain badly but not the way we got it. We, too, were in a drought situation and I was worried about water in my well. To have no water in my pond or running in the creek was not a good thing but to get more than a normal month's rainfall in just a few days has been devestating.
The rain has finally stopped this morning but there are scattered showers projected for throughout the day. The creek hasn't resided any yet but at least we're getting a break for a couple of days. We have another huge storm system that is supposed to hit us on Friday so please keep up the prayers, we are not out of the woods.
Heather, you are right. Taking care of horse, let alone this many horses, in the midst of a major storm has been miserable. Fortunately, Dave was off yesterday and was able to give us some help. We were changing our clothes several times a day because we were soaked to the skin - the only thing that saved us there was that the temperatures were a little warmer than normal. I think it's going to be a long, long winter.
The twins are taking everything in stride. They're used to being cooped up in the stall so not to unhappy about it but the other foals are bouncing off the walls. Even though it's not raining today, it's way too slick to turn horses out so they'll have to keep on bouncing. I had a horse die from a fall in these type of conditions so I won't risk turning them out until the ground can accommodate their antics.

Well, the rain back and this time with high winds. Our power went out and we just now got it back but the winds are still howling so it may not last long.
Trouble and Surprise seem to like the wind. They've been spending some time standing with their heads hanging over the wall and their little noses lifted up to the wind. Kinda looks like those dogs that like to stick their noses in the wind riding in the back of a truck. Their little manes are forelocks are blowing..........

I tried to put blankets on the twins today. It's been a while since they've worn them and I figured they were probably finally in the next size I had available. Trouble and Surprise were both great about getting them on, unlike the other kids I tried to dress today. But Vee had a fit. She didn't mind a blanket on Surprise but she got very agressive with Trouble acting like he was a stranger and driving him off. so I took his back off and I'm keeping an eye on her. I sure don't want her to hurt him after all we've been through.
I think I'll let Surprise wear that one a couple of days to pick up her smell and then put it on Trouble and put the other one on Surprise. Not that's it's really been cold enough for blankets but I'd like them to just have the experience if they're going to be show horses, they need to be good getting blankets on and off.

Sounds like mom wants the little boy out of the nest now. I've heard about ewe's doing this when they had twins, ignoring one from the start but this late in .... I'm at a loss for words.
