If you can find some one that workd in ortho pedics they can bring stuff out and make a brace for the little one out of some fiberglass spint material used for people. I did the same for some friends of mine

I've been thinking about these two since I first heard about 'em! What miracles they are - I'm not sure I know anything that can help but I did want to say that I am praying for you and those precious twins!!! Good luck!!!!!!!!

Here's the latest on Surprise's hock. Dr Bolton got the x-rays today and did not agree with the diagnosis of the radioligist but after that I get a little fuzzy on my understanding of what the differences are. It seems that while there is a crushed bone in the lower part of her hock, the injury is not as severe as indicated by the radioligist. But, from what I can tell it doesn't improve her prognosis, it just changes what we can do for her. And right now, stall rest is it. The only medical intervention will be after she is mature. If this bone has not fused like it should, then it will be necessary to do surgery to fuse it so that hopefully the extent of arthritis that will occur can be lessened. I'm going to call tomorrow to talk with Dr Bolton directly to see if I can understand this better because the only thing I really understand is that Surprise can cause herself more damage. I don't understand how I am to decide when and if she can get off of stall rest. Or signs to watch for that medical interventions is required. It's very frustrating. All the while, I can tell you she is in the stall plotting how to excape next time someone touches that door! She wants OUT! Here's another pic that no one has seen.

My vet is pretty knowledgable about the orthopedic areas, he is just wonderful. If you can get the x rays put on a CD digitally and send them to me i can take them into the clinic and have him tell me what he thinks.. I do this often for friends and it may be of some help, does not hurt to ask around for other opinions.. Let me know if this is something you would like to do.. if so just let me know and i will be happy to take them into the clinic... i work there on a daily basis, i am sure he would also conference with other vets here in az especially the orthopedic specialists and give me an in depth analysis...

h20pony, I will check and see if I can get the X-rays on a disk. We would be most open to any suggestions! mainer The one with the bandage on her neck is Surprise. That was when she had the cathedar in her neck so I could give her antibiotics IV. She is a little smaller than him but not by much. However, the vet today said that horses with her injury tend to stay on the smaller side. It will be interesting to see. I have more pics but don't have them downloaded off my camera yet. Will share when I get it done. Thank you all for your support. MiKael

They are so cute! I just happened to be reading about hock injuries this morning, and I was going to suggest maybe getting the last part of the hock joint fused. Of curse, as you said, it would have to wait until she's older so it doesn't interfere with the bone's growth. I read that some kind of immobilization, like a cast or even a thick bandage, can help the joint fust faster. Whatever the case is, I hope you figure something out, and I hope Surprise makes a good recovery!

h2opony I spoke with my vet about the x-rays and he said he could just send them to your vet and then have them returned. I'm wondering if there is a way to get the converted to the digital format you requested. Do you know how I could get that done?
Cheri, Surprise (filly) will be black when she sheds out. Trouble (colt) looks like he will be black bay like his mother, but not sure about that yet.
Shannon, the joint starts off in three layers and as the horse matures the bottom two fuse into one. If that doesn't happen at the injury site then it will have to be done with surgery, but not until she matures. As far as immobilization, they tell me with this particular injury that is counter productive. She would gradually loose the use of the limb so no form of immobilization or support is helpful. Very frustrating.
