Our weather continues to be the worst in the country. As if the flooding wasn't enough, now we have snow and freezing temperatures. It's currently 10 degrees here and we're having to haul water from the house to 24 horses. The barns are about 300 feet from the house so the buckets get pretty heavy by the time we reach our destination. I haul hot water so it can thaw what is already there and frozen in the buckets. It'll take most of the day just to get them all watered.
Bey Aana was shivering something terrible so I broke out more blankets and blanketed everyone, even the nursing mares. The foals were frightened of their mom's new attire except for Trouble and Surprise. Not much fazes them. Echo let me know she didn't appreciate her blanket by tossing her head at me after I turned her loose but I'll bet it didn't take her long to figure out she's snug as a bug in her run. Rhapsody was more afraid of her mom, Solidare, in her blanket that she was of the one I put on her. I don't think she nursed for hours but she's got it figured out now, although she male thingys her head and eyes the blanket before she sticks her head under it.
I'm hoping to get a chance to get them out into the snow today so they can have their first opportunity to play in the snow but the watering has to get finished first. If I do get them out, I'll try and get some pics. I'm pretty sure they'll put on a show. there's lots of ice so will just put them out in the little paddock off of their stall. That ground seems to not have ice underneath so no one will fall and hurt themselves.

I sure can relate about it being cold. I am in Spokane, WA and it was 8 last night with a windchill of -4. Today the high was 15. What a pain with your water situation. Bet you'll be glad when it warms up a bit towards the weekend. Thirty degrees is gonna feel like a heat wave!

The weather let up here for a little while and the twins got to go out and play. Surprise was a naughty girl on the way out. She was just so excited to get out she was rearing! So much for that hock bothering her. Don't think there's anyway she'd be standing on her hind legs if that hock was sore in anyway.
Trouble was naughty too and ended up getting loose. He had a fun time running around the yard dragging his lead rope. Surprise was being such a handful, I had to get her into the field and turned loose before I could even think about catching Trouble. But he didn't go far and came right to me when I called him.
They both had a blast ripping around together. Spinning and bucking and kicking. I'll bet they ran for 2o minutes.
They've both hit a growth spurt and have outgrown their current halters. I can't believe how fast they've done it this time. Both are past my waist now - and I'm tall. So they're doing great. I couldn't get pictures, they were dive bomging the camera. Will try again when I have help to distract them.

*cries tears of happiness* That's wonderful to hear Mikael! I'm so glad that they are getting bigger. I was watching them for a while yesterday, Surprise wen to nurse once and changed her mind then disappeared off camera to the lower left. Is that were the creep feeder is? She follows Vee around a lot, she pushed right past Vee to put herself in the corner with Vee between her and the door to the outside. They are such a joy to watch. LOL! I bet Trouble did have a good time playing "drag the lead rope through the snow on mom", he knew he'd better come when you called him or he'd be in big trouble!

Trouble and Surprise are now 7 months old. Can you believe it? Yesterday the vet came and worked on their feet some more. Both were very naughty. Trouble kicked the vet tech, Christina, in the arm and while Surprise didn't connect with anyone, she tried her share of kicking. They are so good for the farrier, but then he does a quick trim with just a little bit of rasp work. These adjustments with the vet are a lot of rasp work and I think they get to the point they have just had enough. If anyone was watching on the cam, they got quite a show. The hard part is not to laugh at their antics. They're pretty sure they're the cutest things on the face of the earth as it is, without encouraging them. And, of course, while we're working on one, the other is harrassing you because they want attention. While Jack was rasping Surprise's front legs, Trouble was sniffing at Jack's bald spot! I was just waiting for him to lick it, but thankfully he didn't. Poor Jack was swatting at him like you'd swat a fly but Trouble just ducked out of reach and went back to pestering. Surprise likes to go for the shoelaces. Their legs are improving with each adjustment and while it's a slow process we've come a long way. I just keep hoping and pushing for getting them to the point they are what they genetically were meant to be. I'b beginning to think maybe we'll actually get there. Surprise is butt high right now, and taller than Trouble. Don't know how long that will last but it's good to see her stay up with him. They are getting closer and closer to being normal size for their age and are rapidly outgrowing their blankets and their halters. They are no longer in mini halters.

Actually, I haven't been able to get the cam up for a couple of days. I tried it earlier today and no dice. I didn't want to call and bother you in case there is a good reason(like bad weather knocked it out). It brings a smile to my face to hear that they keep improving. They are two very precious babies and I feel very connected to them when I watch them. Sending best wishes for a happy Holiday season and pets all around for all the four legged critters.

Cheri, and anyone else for that matter, if the cam is down, please feel free to let me know. I try to check it a couple of times a day to make sure it's working but sometimes I get busy or forget. It is working now despite the fact we're having a terrible storm and have an even bigger one following this one in so for the next couple of days it's going to continue to be ugly. The wind woke us up last night destroying what was left of our portable cover for the tractor. But at least it wasn't my barn roof lifting off, so I'm happy. If the power flickers the cam goes down sometimes but not always. That might be what the problem was. But for now we're up and running.

Hi MiKael! I'll be thinking of you and the horses during the storm and sending best wishes for a safe time of it. If you happen to see this message in the next little bit, it looks as if Vee has a strap undone on her rug. All that dangling might look like too much fun to the twins, who probably undid the strap to begin with. LOL!

Yes, devotee, you're right about that strap. It's Trouble. I've done that strap so many times I've lost count. He likes to play with it and I've caught him undoing it. A boy has to live up to his name, you know............ Dave and Lindsay are going out to feed for the last time tonight, I'll let them know it's dangling again.................wanna make any bets on how long it stays in place?

I watched him hanging by her flank for the longest time tonight - the very picture of innocence. But I could tell that he was sizing up some more possibilities for messing with her rug. I should tell you that we had a horse named Trouble on the farm where I boarded a while back. She was a TB mare, rather hapless. Eventually, the owner changed her name to Treasure, in hopes of changing some karma. (I can't tell you if it worked, because they left the farm a short time afterwards.) Good luck in the storm!

Cheri, don't worry about being a bother, it's more like helping to me!
And, devotee, when it comes to Trouble's name, I'm not worried about karma at all. Seems to me that their karma must be pretty darn good or they wouldn't be here. He may be an imp but he is the sweetest horse. The "trouble" he gets into is far more amusing than bothersome. Life is never going to be boring for long watching either one of them. His kind of "trouble' will always bring a smile to my face. He's definitely capturing some hearts including that of my vet.
