I just felt all those in the southeast need to be warned. A few of us in the Spartanburg and Greenville SC area received several calls from 352-553-7139 asking questions about our miniature horses. They wanted to come see ours and my husband told them they would have to come the next day. Well they showed up anyway. Lucky for us our neighbor asked them what they were doing since they showed up in a white F250 and Big White Ponderosa goose neck. They told her they were here to pick up 10 miniature horses she called my husband and found out no they were not. Their were three of them 2 Hispanic men and one woman who wore those big sunglasses so not to see her face. She made them leave and tried to get their tag but the man backed out my 1100 foot drive so she could not see it. We gave the police this info. Just wanted to share this so it would not happen to anyone else. Had it not been for our neighbor we would have lost our entire little herd. I realize this is the wrong board but I knew more would see it here.

I feel very lucky to have my neighbor who cares enough to look out when you are at work. And truly blessed to still have my little ones.

OH MY!! How horrible! It's scary to think that someone would think they could just drive up to a farm and start loading horses with no questions asked. I'm so glad your neighbor was there! If I were you, I would call you local newspapers and have them do an article on it. This kind of information needs to be passed around quickly.
When my grandfather died, we were at the funeral home and someone broke into my grandmother's house while we were away and stole ALOT of stuff. Turned her house upside-down. It seems that the theives read the obituaries and struck from there. We notified the police and found out that my grandmother was not the first victim. We went to every paper in our area and told them all about it. All three of them ran stories about it. I never heard if they caught the theives, my grandmother never got anything back, but at least the public was informed. Now, whenever someone close to us dies, we ALWAYS make sure someone is doing a house watch. I think telling the newspaper will make others aware of what to look for, too.
Also, it might be a good idea for some of the farms on here to do an outside cam, too. Then, the MareStarers will be able to watch your farms for you as well as your mares.

She never saw a tag on the trailer and yes the police did a yellow paper report on this matter. And said they would be on the look out for horses coming up amiss. I just dont want anyone to lose their babies or even come close. I just wanted to share this so all could be safe.

The types of people that think these rip off scam's are SICK! It makes me scared to leave my farm at all The law needs to revert to the law that horse theft is a hanging offense like the old days! That would give those farm wrecker's something to think of
