I have my DVR set and I am in the PST time Zone... so nobody tell me OK. LOL. I don't wanna know until I see it. Matter of fact I am going to check my DVR now to see if the race has been run yet? Try the ESPN and Churchil Downs website. Or the Daily Racing Form Website. Also youbet.net (if Churchill Downs is on their racing card today). *Some of these links are on page two of this thread. Does anyone know who one the Oaks??

Tell you what, it's a big weekend with the Oaks, the Derby, and the Queen . . . but the best event of it all is John Henry's 32nd birthday today! I need to start him a thread.

ok my favorite (as of RIGHT now) is Circular Quay. i hate to pick favorites before i can see them saddled etc. the day of the race but since i can't...... another horse that really caught my eye was cowtown cat -- haven't heard much about him just thought he was really "smart" looking lol. and you've just gotta love storm in may with his story.

Track is sloppy now. May be sloppy tomorrow. I was thinking Hard Spun, but Curlin caught my eye now. It would be really cool if Prado's mount wins it though. Some of the other horses I like are way off to the side in the post positions. It's a hard race to handicap this year. Last year Barbaro stood out easily as he was undefeated. ok my favorite (as of RIGHT now) is Circular Quay. i hate to pick favorites before i can see them saddled etc. the day of the race but since i can't...... another horse that really caught my eye was cowtown cat -- haven't heard much about him just thought he was really "smart" looking lol. and you've just gotta love storm in may with his story.

How about "Rags to Riches" winning the Oaks. Nice win to her, nice filly. The announcers said if she was from another barn she'd have been pointed towards the Derby. Article about the 2007 Kentucky Oaks Race Rags To Riches wins it. sports.espn.go.com/sports/horse/news/story?id=2860683Look on the right... they have a video of this race for those who want to view it also.

On the show on ESPN the announcers mentioned that the Kentucky Oaks sponsors have offered a 1 million dollar prize to the derby winner tomorrow if he/she bests Barbaros lengths ahead of the field K. Derby record. They didn't say who the sponsor was.... United Emirates or? But they talked about how that was maybe not a good way to pay tribute to Barbaro, as it could lead to a jockey pushing a horse too hard at the end just to get a few extra lengths ahead of the rest of the field to get that wad of money. The said it was sort of counter productive and maybe not the best way to pay tribute to Barbaro. The winning horse needs to save something for the rest of the legs of the triple crown. What Barbaro did was not forced; he turned it on and kicked into an extra gear most horses don't have without being asked by Prado. Barbaro had a lot of heart. The next winner shouldn't have to be asked to go faster than is needed to win the race. If the horse wants to run like Barbaro did, that is one thing. But no horse leading a race by extra lengths should have to be whipped to go harder when they are already running great. Why didn't they just offer a donation to the Barbaro fund in the 2007 winners name instead? That imo would be a better tribute for Barbaro and better for the interests of whoever the winning horse will be tomorrow..

LOL! They ALL have stories! There's nothing like the racing industry for stories. (And Jane Smiley tells them so well, too! I've read Horse Heaven 4 times, I'm embarrassed to say.) Teuflesberg is a good story. Don't count him out. It would be a party, if he won.
Really, I think that Curlin is the only horse in the group that has a crack at distinction, if he can step up. And I just want him to win in order to chill the 2-year old scene. He's got a good mind and a lovely stride. But I'll be happy no matter who wins, as long as it's a safe race.

Loved today's Derby.... My handicapping wasn't too bad as I picked Hard Spun and Curlin at least. A win-place-show ticket on Hard Spun would have been a great bet as the prices on Hard Spun were nice. Street Sense is an awesome horse; he had some extra gears and was full of horse when he hit the wire. Went from 19 to 1st... not an easy feat to do. Hard Spun would have also had a nice victory had Street Sense not got there and gobbled him up. I can't wait for the Preakness to see Street Sense, Hard Spun and Curlin go at each other again. Now... I need to go see if NASCAR SONG foaled yet.... with a horse called Street Sense taking the Derby today that seems like a good omen. I do wish NBC would have shown more of the tribute ceremony for Barbaro. Track is sloppy now. May be sloppy tomorrow. I was thinking Hard Spun, but Curlin caught my eye now.
