My baby parrot cam is now online. I am handfeeding a baby Timneh African Grey parrot for a friend I trail ride with, and thought some of you might enjoy seeing it grow up! He/she hatched on 4/28/2007. I am going to try to move the cam when I am sp.oon-feeding the baby so you can watch. I don't have a set schedule, just when the baby is 'empty', so you'll just have to watch!! The cam will only be on during the daytime/early-mid evening, from when I do the first feeding in the morning until I go to bed at night (or thereabouts). Feel free to discuss and ask questions here. I raised all types of parrots for over 15 years until I had to give it up because of my back problems in 2003. It's fun to have one to feed again! As for our name... my Dad came up with that. My Mom's first name and mine both start with the letter 'D', and he said we'd "Gone To The Birds" when we were raising them because they were all over the house. ;D I hope you enjoy!! www.marestare.com/parrots.php

OMGOSH...what a little guy/girl. What happened to it's mom? It's soooo cute and I love the bears. ) I'm glad you get the opportunity to feed and share with us SBL...but do wish the little one had a mom to sit on it and keep it warm and loved. Nice that you are doing this. Lori Siess, Irvine CA.

He's looking hungry!!!! He must hear you making his dinner!
SOOOO CUTE!!! I love baby birds! I worked for a bird retailer when I was 15 for a summer. I loved it! Our babies were older than this one though by the time we got them from the breeder but they were still very young between 5-6 weeks. I loved the little conures. I called them cling-ons because as they got older all I had to do was walk by them and they would launch on to me and attach themselves to my clothes!
We had an African Grey who boarded with us when his owners went out of town. He was soooo smart! He learned how to mimic the phone the first day he was with us. So I'd be vacuuming and hear the phone ring, I'd turn off the vacuum, stumble over the cord, run to answer the phone which is still ringing, say "hello" completely out of breath and the African Grey would start LAUGHING at me. He thought it was so funny! He got me like that several times!! He would wait until I was in the feed room, the bathroom, outside on the sidewalk or vacuuming so I had to come running. But if I was in there wanting him to do it to prove it to someone or if I was ready for it. He wouldn't do a thing! Smart!

When hand-raising baby parrots, you take them from the parents at a young age so that they learn to love people and become nice, sweet, loving pets. If you leave them with the parents, just like in the wild, they learn to fear humans and will not make a good pet. Don't worry. When a little older, he will get lots of cuddle time and will not be lonely. And he is very snuggly warm in a heated brooder.

I'm eagerly waiting to watch the baby bird get supper. What kind of dogs do you have? I can just barely see them on the floor.

Nothing wrong with that baby's appetite. He looks like he's really enjoying his supper. What a good foster mommy you are!!

I had the cam up but I lost it, but he is too cute!!!!! I want an African so darn bad. Hubby had an African before I met him and I guess he would speak so clearly you could have sworn it was a person!

I'm heading to bed, so turned the cam off for the night. It will be back on in the morning. They do talk in people's voices, very distinctly.

Lets just say hubby had the bird in his bachalor days so the bird had well a dirty mouth LOL!!!! But I guess people would knock on the door and Bob would tell them to come in while Dan was in the shower pretty funny I guess! Also he would whisle for the dogs to come in the house. They are just amazing birds, I hope to get more of a glimpse of your little guy today!
