mares where fine, they had people supporting the foal. The only minor complication we had with my mare is she passed the placenta before the cord broke.

i had one from a mare standing and it wasn't a problem. I just knelt down and held it as it came. I don't think you need to worry though, I bet she will lay down for you. I know having a foal is a very worrisome thing, but most of the time things go fine....hoping that for you and your mare. we're here for you if you need us!

Yeah, I've seen a few mares do it. It's quite an unusual sight!

My mare has foaled 3 times and ALL 3 times she stood up. The last time was the only time we had any trouble with her. She retained part of the placenta. She was at another farm when she foaled so I was not there for any of these. I have had to take her to a farm where I work at on the weekends because she always seemed to foal while we were at a show. I am SO glad that I had her up where they are able to watch her 24-7. I was told by several people that once a mare starts standing while foaling, the chances are pretty good that it will be a normal thing for them. It has came true in my case, but I am not sure of if it is always true. I just tell everyone that she thinks her children come out with wings. Just be ready to play Catcher!!

Kind of coincidental isn't it? This topic, and the mares that are here recently.
