From the most recent update from Janelle, it sounds like the vets are not all leaping up with great ideas, but also like money is an issue. I live paycheck to paycheck myself, so I'm not rolling in it, but would be pleased to make a small donation, either paypal or directly to the vet of Janet's choice, to be used as needed - if that turns out to be only for consultation and to put him down, that's her business. I have a suspicion other people would be willing to help out, as well. Even $5 a person adds up quickly. So. Anybody on Janet's end care to let me/us know where to send it?

I'm with you! Yes, please if someone on Janet's end could let us know where to send a donation, I'm there!! I would even be willing to call her vet of choice and make a donation with my credit card if that would help at all.
So many prayers and thoughts and good wishes coming at you from Washington State. Please let us know what we can do!!!

Count me in for a donation. I've been watching Harley and Janet and Missy and know they are all working so very hard. No horse as willing as Harley should have to suffer because of lack of funds....

You ought to think about starting a fund raiser and posted a thread on a few other boards..
I know Hedgemom and I have been yappin' it up on the other board we're on and alot of people have gotten involved on Harley's story. And you're right Its hard to donate alot of money but every little bit counts. And the more people aware of whats going on the more support we're going to find.
Lil Beginnings Miniature Horse Forums.. [Brookhaven might be familiar] .. And I'm sure they're are a zillion and one boards for Paints and QH. : )

I have posted on handicappedpets.com in case anyone has ideas about bracing for him, since nothing seems to have worked out in that department.
Heather - I don't know anything about marestare cares. Will you let us know what is up with that when you get a chance? Thanks!

I just talked to Janet, so she can think about how she would like to arrange things on her end. Poor thing sounds absolutely exhausted. I wish I were close enough to be more help.
Okay, now I see that there is such a thing as the marestare cares fund, and how to donate to IT, but my desire was to donate to Harley/Missy/Janet, and I don't see any declaration of intent to send them anything from the fund or anything. Also, there may be an element of hurry once Janet hears from a vet, and I have no idea how fast the cares fund can move. So I guess I'll hope for a little more information on the marestare cares fund, which is a fabulous idea, but I had in mind a more direct approach for right now. I know my friend with handicapped cats has donated do and benefitted from a fund like that, but also has received a lot of help called in or sent directly to her vet - it motivates the vet, too, to realize so many people care about that animal and are willing to pitch in.
Anyway, if Janet finds a vet she wants out, or to go to, I'll be happy to send a few $ directly.

Splendid. Thanks, Precious. I will see about donating to the cares fund and also directly to Janet without all the religion, as I am an unsaved heathen.

What religion? A good cause is a good cause, and I'm sure that you just offended a LOT of people by ridiculing Mare Stare Cares. At least Precious is doing something- what she does is commendable. The point of MSC is to get help to those who need it- there is no point in donating to both places as they will both go to the same cause.

Regret, have you read the marestare cares page? It's a great idea, it's a great thing they're doing. But I'm sorry, I personally cannot get behind all the talk of angels and god. I'm glad they're doing it, and if their god is what motivates them, that's wonderful. But as a rule I do not donate to religious causes. They're wonderful people. I never said they weren't. Just that I am not comfortable with all the religion.
As for it all going to the same place- rarely do these funds completely empty to a particular need. Nothing on the marestare care site explains their plan for how much to donate to any particular recipient, how much they want to try to keep in the fund in case a second one comes along, etc. It is a wonderful thing, and I realize it is new. But I don't take funds like this for granted - it's like assuming that the money you give the Red Cross during a particular fund drive actually goes to the need advertised at the time (not usually). That's often not how they work. Which doesn't make them less of a good thing. But the donations to a fund go where the organizers decide they should go, which may vary.

No Erika, we intend to send all donations earmarked to that person specified we are not Red Cross and do not have a "general fund" we specifically thought about Marestare Cares when we watched poor Lukky having his problems, and the vet bills mounting...that said you can specify where you want those donations to go, and its not monetary requests anyone can donate unused tack or whatever horse related to the MSC and it will be auctioned to the same puposes as stated above. I hope this clears up some confusion. I personally am making saddle blankets to donate, another is making foal blankets and even larger horse blankets to donate...other horse related craft items are being made... So I suppose thats where the "angels" come in as we are doing this from our hearts "for the love of the horse"... and the "Rainbow Bridge" a constant reminder of what could be...

Jees, erika. The fund is just getting started. Yes, I have read the page and it is NOT a religious cause. The page is mainly talking about angels- which has become less and less religious over the years. Personally, I'm agnostic and take no offence whatsoever to what's been said on that page.
Do NOT insinuate that this fund will not empty to help. That's EXACTLY what it is there for. Precious, Chero and Leslie are all amazingly caring, giving people and it is appaulling that you would insinuate otherwise.
