Is no one here keeping up with Barbaro anymore? The last week has been critical for him, as he has had FOUR cast changes in one week!!! Infection isn't looking good, but they did clear up the abcess in his left hind. Replaced the hardware also, and they are doing their best to keep him comfortable. He has been all over the news since Sunday, and as always I am tirelessly keeping up my thread on him over at Horse City. forums.horsecity.com/cgi-bin/bb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=29;t=047768;p=1Surprised no one here has mentioned him? I know it is easy to forget about something like this after so much time has passed, but I feel he deserves better than that. Besides, he needs our prayers now more than he did seven weeks ago even!! For the first time, things truly are looking bad for him. PLEASE PRAY!!!! Of course, as always you can get official updates here: www.vet.upenn.edu/newsandevents/news/Barbaro.htmETA: Sorry I just noticed that there was an update link on this forum - I apologize. I skimmed through before posting this and must have missed it somehow.

I've been keeping up and checking the Penn site daily.. BUT I am also dealing with a race Horse INJURY..Punkin is NOT a Barbaro in the worlds "eyes" BUT a Fractured pelvis and Brain swelling and Less then a Month into Healing..I THINK we all CARE about Barbaro.BUT when you look on this board you'll see many of Us dealing with our Own Horses That in our Minds are Just as deserving as Barbaro But the world doesn't know about Our Horses. So I would say Most are still keeping Barbaro in their thoughs...as well as Others who also need the prayers and thoughts. In My Mind ALL horses are Equal Thanks for posting the update link.

I have been keeping up with Barbaro as well.
My "insider" says that he is handling all of this very well, and that he is surprisingly up beat about everything. She did say that his heart did have a bit of trouble after going under but he snapped out of it pretty quickly.
He is still in my prayers!

I think about Barbaro. I'm in Maryland and it's still a pretty hot news topic here. But I worry more about the horses here on Marestare. Barbaro is beautiful and famous and seriously injured, but his owner has millions and the best vet care in the known universe is available to him.
I worry and pray a lot more for WC and Missy and the twins. Beloved pets whose owners do not have millions at their disposal, yet they wouldn't trade them for a dozen Barbaros.
Maybe because I don't own a horse, I don't understand the attraction of Barbaro, but it appears to be like worrying about a movie star or sports celebrity.

I'm still keeping up on Barbaro's progress and setbacks. I'm upset at this latest setback and praying he pulls through just fine.

I'm keeping tabs on Barbaro and care about him. But I also care for my "family" here and keep up with what's happening with them. While I feel for Barbaro, I don't have that closeness with him or his owners like I do with everyone here on marestare. Don't get me wrong but it's different when you are a "real" part of the horses and people we watch on cam and chat with everyday. We don't have this luxury with Barbaro or his owners. I'm sure a lot of people have the same feelings as I do.

Hey y'all. I've been updating Barbaro's developments almost daily in the Barbaro thread on this board. (Celebrity means nothing to a horse, you know. They ALL know they are important!)

Just read on CNN.com that Barbaro has developed severe laminitis and his prognosis for survival is "poor." So sorry to hear this....

h2opony - can you contact me please? I know you have connections at New Bolton!!!!!!!!! This is a HUGE plea to ANYONE who may know someone at New Bolton - or a way to get in direct contact with them.
I have already left two messages at the center for Gail Luciani and Pam Salsbury. Other than those two, I am not sure who to contact.
I have info that may or may not be beneficial to Barbaro and this point - but it is something that I feel Dr. Richardson and the others caring for him should at least be aware of. I know of a vet who literally performed miracles with a horse I used to know ... who suffered from chronic laminitis for over a year! She is alive and well today thanks to this vet. Obviously I have know way of knowing how similar her case was to Barbaro since we know very little as far as details go - but it is still something I feel those caring for him have a right to explore (if they already haven't done so)!
So if anyone has a way to directly contact someone at New Bolton that may be able to get this info to the doctors there - PLEASE e-mail me at ruffian122@aol.com so I can pass that info along.
It has to do with a hyperbaric chamber. The vet I am speaking of truly performed a miracle in saving this horse I knew last year, aptly she was named "Angel." :: I'm crossposting this everywhere I can think of - please do the same if you don't mind. Thanks!
While Barbaro story has taken a tragic turn, I have seen horses overcome more than this. There is still some hope!!!!! Keep praying!! ::[/i]

Drop me an e mail genine at h2opony3@hotmail.com with the info you want me to pass on. I tried to get a hold of her all last night and into today, as i know of some horses my vet has turned around that were deemed even by the University of Colorado to not make it.
Praying for his recovery! Poor guy

I already have left messages directly for Dr. Richardson, and about 8 other residents at New Bolton. Unfortunately though, I just learned that my idea of hyperbaric therapy is not even available at New Bolton - while it is available at many other veterinary colleges. Either way though, I am sure if they believed it would help - they would have transferred him somewhere to get it weeks ago. Sorry to get everyone all worked up. All we can do is pray, I'm afraid. I'm hoping that will be enough. I have faith in everyone at New Bolton, and in Barbaro, and we know that he is in the best possible situation he could be in. If anyone can get through it, Barbaro can - and the people there will do all they can to help. I'm eating crow now though, that I didn't check the facts before getting all worked up over it - but I was only trying to help.

As always, the best place to get the latest and most reliable information about Barbaro is from the Bolton Center site. Here's the link to the press conference transcript held today: www.vet.upenn.edu/newsandevents/news/Barbaro_Transcript7-13.pdf . It's not hopeful or easy reading. Genine, Barbaro's laminitis is not chronic. It's acute, and Dr. Richardson describes it as "catastrophic" in its aggressiveness.
