Does her foal's name have to start with a WXY or Z, also?

Yes. Her foal's name must begin with the letters W, X, Y or Z. Last year the letters were T, U or V. The Dutch registry determines the letters each year. I just clicked on another link by mistake and saw an introduction giving some information about the horse on the camera. I have never told you anything about Eveline. I purchased Eveline from her previous owner in the Netherlands. She and her first born flew here on KLM airlines 2 years ago. I will give you a little information about the Friesian horse first. In the year that they are born foals are judged for conformatioin and movement. Most of the judges come from the Netherlands to perform the judgings. Our judgings (called keurings) here in the US are always held in September. Foals are typically shown to the judges the year they are born. They can receive one of 3 premiums (called premies), or no premium. 1st premie is best. then 2nd, 3rd, then no premie They are initially registered in the foalbook and their registration papers are issued indicating their premie, if one was received. Premiums are awarded based 40% on conformation and 60% on movement. At the age of 3, they are inspected again. The judges award premiums once again and this time the Friesian is entered into the studbook. Registration papers are handed over to the judges and are reissued showing the horse is entered into the "studbook". The papers will list all premiums ever issued to that horse. Eveline was born in 2001. She received a 1st premium as a foal. At 3 she received a 1st premium again when she entered the studbook. A 1st OR 2nd premium earns the designation of "star" status. Approximately 4% of mares shown at the age of 3 make "1st premie star". Eveline did. She is a "1st premie star mare". So she is very special. This will be her third foal. She had a colt in 2005, then Tina was born here last year. Tina received a 1st premie as a foal last year and will go back in front of the judges when she turns 3. There are 2 more designations a mare can receive. If a mare has four foals that achieve star status, she receives the designation of "preferent mare". Also, 1st premie star mares can try for "model mare" status at the age of 7. This includes a test of driving or being ridden dressage. Eveline will do this next year. She will be given the year off after this foal is born so she can get in shape for her test.

That is so cool! Thank you for that information! So now what is Eveline really like? Is she a diva or does she roll in the mud? What color bucket does she have to have?

She is an absolute baby doll. She is very neat in her stall and LOVES attention. I am very fortunate to have a horse that I love so much and that loves me back. She and Tina are both nice to be around. A friend told me yesterday that she and her boyfriend tried to catch his horse for 1 1/2 hours. All I have to do is call their names and they come. When it is hot, Eveline loves to be hosed down. Sometimes she will roll. But I believe she knows that she will feel better if she doesn't. She sure looks funny when she does. Her dry lot is gravel screenings. So if she lays down when she is wet, she stands up and has a line down her back. She is half black and half gray! LOL!!!

If you're having the same storm that Shady Nook is getting, Eveline sure is unfazed by it. Earlier tonight, I saw Octavia/Zaviah's stall light up with a bolt of lightning, and then the cam quit. It was kinda cool - because the whole outdoors was frozen on screen, lit up bright as day. But Octava and Zaviah were twirling like dervishes!
Thanks for all the background on keurings. I can never keep it straight, but I think I've just allocated too many brain cells to Jockey Club data. I only have room for one breed. LOL! Eveline must be your dream horse. The first time I ever saw her on cam, last year, I knew right away that I was looking at somebody very special. It's easy to see her through your eyes, too. When you are with her, the love between you is so palpable.
So, tell us. Are you hoping for a filly or a colt?

Hey, Debbie - how close is Eveline to "preferant mare" status? Did her colt make first premie? Also, I'm curious about what age you start breeding the mares. Will you breed Tina when she's 3? I would love to attend a keuring sometime . . . but I have to limit my opportunities for buying horses. LOL!
