I am a new member but have been staring at mares while waiting to be become an "official" mare starer. I think this website is wonderful as a help to the horses and their families; and it is also very informative. But already I have a suggestion. I have noticed that the board where threads about "the mares who need to be stared at "; there are many threads on page 1 where the foals have been on the ground at least a day. I am wondering if maybe a separate "foal nursery" board could be set up where the threads about the news on the "arrivals and the new moms could be moved to. Then page 1 would have more room for the other mares threads "still in line to foal". Today I read the message rules about the excessive chit chat; and I could see how it is that a "new foal threads" can stay on the pages for a couple days with pictures and chat. Meanwhile at the same time there are mares on page 2,3,4 whose owners want some helpful eyes staring at their mares also. Some of the mares on pages 2, 3, 4 are "low alert", streaming milk, "special cases and should have their turn "triage" wise on page 1 over the "new foal threads with pictures and extra chit chat". Don't get me wrong. I am happy about the new deliveries and want to hear all about them and watch them start growing. I love looking at the new foal pictures, and later you will see I love to goo and gaw over the new babies and their blessed mommies too. But I would prefer to do that new foal chat and picture sharing in another "venue"/board so the thread is out of the way of the other mares still getting ready to birth their foals. I worry about the mares further back on pages 2,3, 4 etc. getting less attention than they and their owners might need. BTW I found your message rules to be very helpful and well thought out. It is nice to have posting guidelines to follow; such rules do help keep things going smoothly. Now I am going to stare at some mares.... Reply: Thank You SO much for your suggestion! We have created a nursery sub-board for all the threads to be moved to after a mare foals now so that the current board will be easier to find mares due on and they won't get lost in 5-6 pages of ones that have foaled. Great idea!!

Mare Stare rocks. Here I am a new member with a suggestion and you took the ball and ran with it. Thank you for listening to the new gal.
What is really cool is that now we can find the new baby threads easier to boot, so we can check in and see how the little ones we kept" stare on " are doing. I love the new foal updates and pictures; and now the proud parents can post away without taking the attention away from the moms getting ready to deliver.
Oh, Yes! Mare Stare is rockin'. 5 star service for the horses and their peoples! Now I'll go back and stare at some mares. And check out the new arrivals in the Nursery.

I have a neat suggestion. What if we had a feature of member of the month. But it would be chosen only at random. For this you would tell all about the member/their involvment in horses and maybe a small picture of them. It could just give a little bit of info on them and if they have a camera. I know there is already an introduce yourself thread, but this would help us get to know the member a lot better, and it could help the member advertise their own farm. eh?

I don't mean to be obnoxious or picky, but for about the last week I am finding threads brought to the top that I have never seen before. Like today someone replied to a post that was made back in 2005!!!!! While its great people are looking up stuff that happened in the past is there a way to maybe lock those so they aren't brought to the top? I know I think they are a new thread until I start to read them and the date was from 2yrs ago!!!! I'm not saying go in and lock every one but maybe the old ones that are brought to the top OR is there a way to put them in files according to year? I don't even know if that is a possibillity or not. Thanks guys. Brittany

I love the new NURSURY it works so well to keep the clutter of the foaling alerts more organized. I would like to see some kind of announcement put at the top of the foaling alerts to tell people that if a mare foals then the thread is moved to the Nursury. I have seen several people putting in the foaling alerts threads that say "I cann't find so and so". If they read about the Nursury in a anouncement maybe they will know where to go with having to block up the foaling alerts.

I agree... I noticed the same thing. Here is another suggestion from luvhorses, I was the one who suggested the Nursery in case folks don't know. Put the older threads once they get past a certain "age" (blank # of weeks) In a sub folder called "The Paddock" or "The Corral" or something. I almost replied to an older thread in the nursery to congratulate the new arrival, then noticed it was a 2005 baby. LOL I don't mean to be obnoxious or picky, but for about the last week I am finding threads brought to the top that I have never seen before. I too love the nursery. That was a great idea luvhorses! A great way to clean up the Mare Stare board! But, may I ask that the thread not be moved until after the furor of congrats is over (maybe an hour or two). It is frustrating to type up a post only to have it booted after you enter it, because the "thread no longer exists". The second post you type is NEVER as good as the original. LOL

Sorry about that. Sometimes we are overzealous in our efforts to keep things moving along.
Don't know if this will work but, if you hit your browser's "Back" button, you might be able to recover your post and copy/paste it in a reply at the new location.

Gee whiz! Sytske's filly hasn't even stood up yet, and she's already in the nursery. Shouldn't foals at least NURSE before they go to the NURSERY? You mods have clicky fingers. LOL!
