That name for a sub-folder for the old nursery threads is too funny! But it is fitting. "Out To Pasture" sub-board ! I agree... I noticed the same thing. Here is another suggestion from luvhorses, I was the one who suggested the Nursery in case folks don't know. Put the older threads once they get past a certain "age" (blank # of weeks) In a sub folder called "The Paddock" or "The Corral" or something. I almost replied to an older thread in the nursery to congratulate the new arrival, then noticed it was a 2005 baby. LOL Put them 'Out to Pasture' lol

Ignoring for the moment all these uncooperative mares who cannot keep a schedule, can we return to the practice of including due dates in the thread headings on the alerts forum? I know it's difficult to police the headings, but it is very helpful to have the dates there whenever possible.

Too funny, I came over here to suggest something like that also. Like have the new nursery additions have their birth dates on their thread title/subject heading. The new babies with dates on them stand out better from the old threads. I almost congratulated someone on their new colt tonight, looked closer and saw it was a colt born on April 7th. I am certainly checking the dates on any threads I reply to in the nursery. Don't want to be embarrased or accidently send a condolences post to someone whose baby died weeks ago ( thus sort of re-opening old wounds which would not be good for the bereaved). I am liking the idea of having the older threads in a sub-board called "out to pasture" more and more. Having the new and old threads on the mare stare babies mixed together can be confusing as people bring back old threads from way back. Thanks for listening. Ignoring for the moment all these uncooperative mares who cannot keep a schedule, can we return to the practice of including due dates in the thread headings on the alerts forum? I know it's difficult to police the headings, but it is very helpful to have the dates there whenever possible.

I absolutely love Mare Stare and think the moderators do a fabulous job here ! It is by far one of the best boards I've ever seen. I have three little suggestions/pet peeves. 1. I think posts made in a thread should relate specifically to that horse. I find it a little frustrating to open a thread for an update on a horse's progress to read "check out this horse over here". Plus I feel it a little disrespectful to the horse and owner. 2. This kind of falls under power posting. Obviously posts on activities which can be indicative of a pending foaling is, well, the whole point of the board. However, I've noticed an increase in back-to-back posts such as "she just laid down", "she just stood up", "she just ate some oats", etc. I think unless an owner has specifically requested for whatever reason updates on a horse's moment-by-moment activities, posts of this nature should be kept to a minimum. 3. Quotes. While I think this can be a very useful feature, I think sometimes it is being overused and thereby taking up way too much space. I realize there is really no way to police these issues except maybe gentle reminders from time to time. I apologize if this has been raised somewhere else or if I have inadvertently "trotted" on anyone's toes (not my intention). Hmmm... maybe these frustrations are partially stemming from too much staring and not enough sleep (is there such a thing as too much staring ??).

I love the suggestion box and all the helpful suggestions. Most of them, however, will probably require more work from the already-overworked (but vastly appreciated) mods. So, I would also like to suggest some kind of increased compensation for them, as their roles on the MB become more and more onerous.
Maybe we could start an MSC category for providing them caffeine and sedatives? Just kidding - but we should not overlook the extra burden that these suggestions would seem to create for them.

An apology to the folks I may have annoyed along the way to growing up as a Mare Starer... from a newbie. I am one of the guilty folks that has been posting way too much as of late. I am sorry that I fell into the trap.... it was not an intentional attempt to power post. I have chronic pain issues and I realized last night that I was using the internet too much to distract myself from my physical pain I was having. Also two of my cats died in the menu pets recall; and I lost my dog to cancer all in about a 3 week period (late jan-early febuary). I am grieving for them a great deal and I think I was subconciously trying to avoid the pains of late. I hope folks here will forgive me for that. And also forgive me for doing b-day cards with too much smilies and scrolling marqees. *I am still a newbie here and forgot there are many folks online at marestare with older operating systems or who are on dial up. I am working this am to delete & edit some of my postings that need are problematic. Please forgive me. In the future I won't allow myself to fall into the tempting trap of chit-chating on the foaling board and other annoying posting habits.. To all I annoyed with any of my problematic postings I am very sorry and wish to apologize for my mistakes as a "NEWBIE Starer". I will refrain from running commentary (I get tunnel vision sometimes, so I will watch that), I will not do anymore b-day posts that have too much stuff on them, and I will not excessive chit chat. I will PM with those who want to chit chat. I will try to do my very best from now on to be a more helpful member by not excessively posting; I knew better as I have been a moderator of various groups at yahoo. I am a current co-owner of a 3500-4000 yahoo group and another group around 900 souls. As a former moderator and as a yahoo group owner I should have done better than I have done with regards to my postings and I am so sorry I messed up. If you have any questions and such about my apology here; please do feel free to private message me. Thank you for your understanding. I will do my best to follow the rules and guidelines at Mare Stare from here on out. I am not a power poster, but was just incredibly stupid and made newbie mistakes re. my postings. I am not the only person who may be guilty of making such promematic postings, but I did screw up. Thank you for your honesty and understanding. Your constructive critiscim was helpful to myself. Critisim can sting but.... in the end it can helps a person learn to do a job like this better. Luv To all: Please feel free to private message me iif you want to ask me anything, chit chat, have more feed back, etc. This has been one of the hardest email letters I have had to write; but I feel it was necessary for me to do so. I owe some folks this apology and this is the best way I know how to get myself back up on the horse and do better. with what mom2meg has said. I have come to really enjoy Mare Stare.... and have become an addict. But I also find it very annoying to want to quickly get an update on a particular mare I have been watching, and have to go through all the "Power Postings" just to get a significant update. I do not mind (and enjoy) the back-and-forth "chat" that can be quite funny (and great stress-relief - i.e. the 12-step program), especially for those of us that have been watching a mare for weeks on end - with no end in sight. Unless a barn/mare owner has specifically asked on-line for a play-by-play of what their mare has been doing while they, the owner, has laid down for nap, the postings of: "ate some hay," "laid down - got back up," I feel are "Power Postings." I have noticed a lot of newer members have a few hundred postings in just a short few days of being members. Power Postings??? And I also agree that a thread for a mare should be dedicated to that mare, and the "check out this mare over here" is also annoying and disrespectful. GO to THAT thread on the other mare to bring it to the top to get others attention. Also, if someone can not find a thread on a mare, either do a "Search" or PM a moderator - or another member. Don't create a new thread to ask that type of question in the "Foaling Updates" section. ok - I'll get off my soap box. I KNOW how hard it must be to keep the Rules on Posting policed/enforced. Thank you for all you do!

Luv, I have no problem with you. I find your enthusiasm refreshing. I especially like your running commentary while I'm at work. My boss actually thinks we should work while we're at work - imagine that. Most of the cams are blocked on my work computer. You help me keep up with whats happening.

Thank you for being so kind and encouraging.... But I really did go way overboard last night with Song's thread and got tunnel blindness. Next thing I knew, I made a mess of it and had a whole string of postings. Some kind folks tried to stop me, but I didn't see the PM's and posts... until it was too late. I cleaned up the play by play commentary up that I did last night , so folks won't have to sort through tons of "not really interesting in the end "postings and that thread doesn't get too long. It was newbie mistake... done by someone who usually knows better than that. My bad. I am cleaning up all the crazy b-day cards I did yesterday; they just were a bit much. I did leave up the play by play trail on Silver Creek's Colt; as a member wanted commentary. Plus some folks probably wanted to know what happened to the colt. At the time folks were asking questions about what was happening... so I tried to help out with some of my knowlege from working as an Animal Care Tech at a large HSUS animal shelter. I figured I could help field some of these questions. Thank you for the support. Folks can PM me if thay want to talk about my apology post or just chit chit chat.... that way the threads stay cleaner and the suggestion box doesn't fill up with a bunch of non-suggestion posts.

BTW if there is ever a need or request for such a post trail... it will be done on one post rather than a string of posts. Laurie suggested this and I agree with her on the reasons we want to avoid long trails of play-by-play posts.

Luv - I wasn't trying to single you out at all. Please accept my apology if I offended you. I think some chit-chat is nice and inevitable especially for us late-nighters. I know when the horses are quiet and the board is dead, I tend to nod off and it really isn't good when you wake up with a computer monitor impression on your face ! I am soooo sorry to hear about your losses. It is devestating to lose a pet nevermind three in such a short span of time. For me, they are just like having two more children (but at least one of my furry children listens better than my human child.) judmor - My silly bosses have the same opinion. I can't get any of the cams here. But then again, maybe that is a good thing otherwise I would NEVER get any work done.

I also wasn't singling out any one user!!! Just making a general observation! Like I said, I like the back-and-forth chit-chat and/or getting silly. We ALL could use more silly in our lives. (As an example this morning with Special and her owner's goats! I'm sitting at my desk laughing my head off, and made a few postings myself that had nothing to do with Special, but had all to do with the goats over-running the OWNER and Special's stall. No apology was needed........ we are one big happy.... dysfunctional? family here.

I know my reply here is sort of OT as it isn't really a suggestion: I know I am not the only one who makes mistakes. But I made my share lately. And I likely will make more until I get my sealegs. I think constructive critisim is always helpful. And the points you made in your post were helpful. And lets just say I do feel I needed to do better. Thankyou for letting me join in on all the fun everybody. Luv Anybody want to PM me on this thread... please do PM me so we don't get this thread filled with OT (offtopic posts). PMme anytime: Even if you just want to be silly, I love and need distractions like sillynesss.BTW I am taking my remaining cat to the vet this afternoon as she is having health problems; she has some renal problems/kidney damage and immune system problems. Will be gone from the computer which is a good thing as I need to take care of myself right now. Thank you to you and also to everybody here for being so supportive and helpful to myself. I won't reply anymore here on this particular subject on the list; I don't want to make more messes right now. I wanna be good and behave myself from here on out. I have a suggestion, I love the Nursery forum and wonder if anyone thinks we should have a seperate forum for the Angel foals and/or Mares. Kind of a Chapel or something similar.
