Hello, my name is Cassie or Cassandra and I am 15 years old (turning 16 in August). My family owns 1 horse named Joey. He is a clydesdalexhackneyxthoroughbred. I fell off him once (my first fall) and since then I've only ridden him about 5-6 times in the last maybe 3 years. I know, i know, but I am afriad of horses sometimes. But I've learned to trust him and I groom him and lead him around the barn. But after my fall I started taking riding lessons at a schooling barn. I rode this black pony who was quite a handful. And of course I was kinda scared but then I realized how short of a fall it would be If i fell off him. So I had lessons on the older school pony who was sooo lazy and sloww OMG! and then I had a couple lessons on a white arab (wasn't so comfy!) and then I started to ride the black pony. The other people i saw riding him couldn't really control him (I thought so anyways), but then once I started riding him, he was so good for me and we got along so well. I actually started trusting a horse again. So he would always be good for me except for the occassional spook or so. and then we moved onto a little bit of jumping. just 3 poles stacked into one or a little x. But man was that ever fun! I had the greatest time ever! We kept doing that almost every lesson. Then on one lessons, we did a course with the 3 poles, and on the very last one i kinda shifted to the side, and he felt like that was a good oppertunity to give a buck. So i went flying and half hit my head on the standard (Don't worry I wear a helmet!!!) So after that I kinda lost a little bit of his trust. But then it grew back. And I would bathe him after my lessons during the summer. We had a great time! At the new barn we're at I started riding this tb (calm guy, kinda always grumpy but a good ride) and I rode him a couple times, but rthen one day he decided to take a bite out of my arm. Let's just say I cried a lot. And that day my mom's coach was coming out to give us a lessons together. But I was so scared to even go near that horse again that I decided I felt safer riding our horse, joey. So that got me to ride him and I was really happy afterwards. Anywho, we moved our horse around a couple times and now we're at a place we love! And I love taking my camera out to the barn to take pics of Joey. Photography is one of my passions. I can't explain everything rright now because I gotta go. Wow that's a lot. Here's a pic of me: i30.photobucket.com/albums/c345/manureslinger222/anewme.jpg

Hello, My name is Penny and husband is Randy. We have what some call is our own petting zoo. 7 dogs, 11 miniature horses (4 of which will foal starting the end of June thru Aug hopefully all on marestare) an Umbrella thingyatoo and a Quaker Parrot and then of course one 30 gallon fish tank. We have had horses since we got together and both had them in the past. We started with Tennessee Walkers and shown then in Tennessee, Kentucky, SC, NC and Virginia. Then we moved to adding United Racking horses in with them and showing them also. I kept saying I wanted a mini but we then got a Blegin then a Perchron then I won and we got 1 miniature horse. Well the rest is history the barn has been converted and the big horses have moved on and the minis keep coming. I find a special place in my heart for those minis that have been abused in the past as we have one now that is the love of my life. She and I are learning to become friends thru the use of Parelli techiniques that we are both learning together. I don't beleive I would ever sell her for fear that someone would not understand her and hurt her again. So for as long as I am alive and able she will have a home with me. As for our other minis we plan to show some of them with the help of Kathey Bailey, she has become a true treasure to us with all the help and support she has shown. We are truly blessed to be apart of her life. I am a Marestare addict and i here-by admit I am a addict and have no desire for a twelve step plan to get away from it. I am so addicted that I even call home at night to check on the mares. And race home to get my fix. I have really enjoyed talking with everyone here and look forward to many years with you all. Thank you Heather for starting Marestare. Without you we would all be going to sleep at night. Prayers for a safe foaling season for all and healings for those whom need it along with prayers for those suffering and in need of them.

Hi. I'm Gigi. I raise llamas and have 11 right now. Go to s56.photobucket.com/albums/g172/twnpnds to see some of our critters, past and present. What do you do with a llama? You were gonna ask that, weren't ya? LOL. You can show them, pack with them, drive them, make stuff from their wool, use them to guard your goats, sheep, and other critters, they make great 4H projects and therapy animals, and my favorite, love them. Visit the Southern States Llama Association's web site at www.ssla.org to see what all we do with them and to learn about them. I also have a goat, a mule, 2 cats, and THE dog. I'm an addict too! Love watching the mares and chatting. I have been involved with horses most of my life but due to problems from my diabetes and old injuries I can't ride anymore. I am thinking about getting some mini mules or perhaps breeding my own. I love mules. Well, anything equine! Romeo, another Mare Stare member, is my cousin and lives next door to me. He has mini donks and we are eagerly waiting for some babies to be born this year. I love watching and spending time with his little donks. They're so cute. There's one problem with being a Mare Stare addict besides being sleep deprived. My behind is spreading out. Of course those late night/early morning snacks don't help. ROFL. It's worth every minute and every pound and inch. ;D

Hi, My name is Tc and hubby Randy. We have both been raised with horses all our lives. I was 3 years old when my daddy put me on a horse. I think the same with Randy. WE raise Working Quarter horses with Boon Bar and Driftwood bloodlines. We do work our horses on cattle doing drives and branding/sorting, ranch work. I work as an office manager, own my own business doing Embroidery and I also have 25+ years on the local ambulance as an EMT. I also work for my vet, taking care of his horses. I train Wild Mustangs from the BLM and work with my own. I got started with marestare after I was chatting with Jennifer, KY via yahoo IM. I had also hooked a small camera up to watch one of my mares when I was in the house. I was watching my mare, I had just laid my head down, when I heard the buzzing from Jennifer on the IM saying I better get out in the barn. I couldn't believe I fell asleep but I got out into the barn, ended up having to pull the foal and mom and foal survived. IF I would not have been there to help, I would have lost the foal and the mare. Thats when Jennifer told me about marestare. Every year we end up pulling that mares foal. She has big foals. She just happens to be our favorite mare. So we are so thankful for Jennifer and now marestare. So to who ever reads this... please join us in the barn. This year I posted our cell phones... so we can update whoever calls us. Since the barn is a long distance from the house we won't update till we go back in. Which sometimes takes a while. lol Tc and Randy

Post by ShowMama: aka Pack Mule! on Feb 15, 2007 20:45:34 GMT -5
Hi, I'm ShowMama aka Pack Mule! I say that because when we go to horse shows, ya know who gets to carry everything.....me! Today is my birthday. No big deal, I'm just an older 40 something. I have my arm in a sling so it's hard to type, so sorry if I dont type everything right. I had my second rotator cuff surgery done last Friday, the second in less than 1 1/2 years. I havent been able to work for a few years because of my shoulders, and now today my husband just got laided off work. When it rains, it pours I guess. We've already paid half the stud fee to breed my daughters mare, so now we're committed to it. I'm sure things will work out, God has a plan for all this, we just don't understand it right now.
But, I LOVE horses! Ever since I was a little girl I wanted a horse, but could never afford one. My daughter (now 20) has the same affliction, so I've done everthing I can to help her realize that dream. My son (16) prefers horsepower over real horses! My daughter took some riding lessons, got involved in 4-H and was able to lease a horse for a couple of summers. Someone donated a yearling arabian filly to the 4-h project and the winner was determined by an essay contest. As you can guess, my daughter (about 13 at the time) won and we were instant horse owners. We aren't zoned for horses where we live so we've had to board the horse. There is no such thing as a free horse, but that little filly has taught my daughter more than we could ever imagined. When we got the little creature she was as wild as could be, but with lots of patience and alot of good advice and help from the owners where we board, the mare has turned out to be a really wonderful, well rounded horse. My daughter did all the training with her and went to our state 4-h show with her 3 times. Now my daughter is studying pre-vet with an equine emphasis and training other horses. I guess it's safe to say I'm living my horse dream through my daughter, but that's ok. I'm really not able to ride much because of these darn shoulders, neck, back and knees, but I at least get to be around them some. I love all breeds, but have really grown to love Arabians. If money were no object, I'ld probably have a barn full of Arabs, Friesians, Saddlebreds, Gypsy Cobs and minis. I would love to have a mini that could drive. That sounds like it would be fun.
I'm really glad I found MareStare a couple of weeks ago. It's been a good way to keep me entertained while I'm recouping. Everyone that posts seems so caring. Thanks

Hi, my name is Vicki and my husband and I raise TN Walking Horses. We presently have 3 broodmares (only 2 bred for this season, one due late March , the other early April) and a gelding at home. We have 3 show horses in training and one halter colt. Our real love is the halter colts. We were fortunate to raise the 2006 Reserve World Grand Champion Weanling, Man in Charge. His picture is on the homepage of our website http:/www.ivacres.com. We have 25 acres in rural West TN. I am a native Tennesssean, but my husband was raised in Phoenix, AZ. He has been in TN for about 15years. We have 2 sons, a daughter-in-law and a precious 1 y/o grandaughter. She lives in Minnesota, so we do not see her as much as we'd like. When she is older, hopefully she will like horses and encourage her parents to visit us more often. I love mare stare and have told all my "horse friends" about it. My husband thought it was kind of silly to watch other people's mares foal until he happened to be home when one foaled. He was crowding the monitor so that I could hardly see! lol. Now he sees the value of the service and tells his friends about it as well. Great service and I have met some nice people. Looking forward to a fun filled foaling season.

Hi my name is Stephanie and I am from Grand Rapids, MI. I presently own 3 horses a 9 month old black Appendix QH gelding who was born May 1, 2006 his name is Solomen (15hh), a 10 year old black appendix QH mare named Foxy (16.2hh) (she is the mom Solomen) who is open for this year thinking of possibly breeding her in 2007, and then last but not least is my 9 year old double registered chestnut and white mare she is registered half arab and pinto her name is Indy and she is also open not sure if I will breed her or not this year we will have to see.
I have truly enjoyed marestare and glad I found the website as I am addicted to it. I will be very happy for it in 3 weeks when I have surgery and can't work or work with my horses it will keep me occupied. I have told all my friends about it and now have gotten some of them addicted to it as well. Looking forward to all the foalings that are left I have seen many of them already this year and brings back my memories from when my boy was born last year but better as we had problems when he was born.

Hi everyone! My real name is Julie, I am 37 years old and have been married for almost 19 years. Hubby's name is Jerry, and we have 2 daughters: Sarah, age 18 and Lauren, she will be 16 in March. We live in s/e Michigan with 2 dogs, Sadie and Ginger (both mutts), and my Arabian gelding Z Amistad. Wisteria Farms so far only exists in my heart and my dreams, but one day when I am able to realize my longtime dream of breeding Arabians that is what my farm will be called. My dad claims that I started demanding a horse when I was 2. When I was 6 I started taking hunt seat lessons every week, which lasted til high school. Around 10 years old, my parents took my to see my mom's cousin, who had an Arabian mare with her yearling colt. Thus began my obsession with Arabians! Obviously, if you did the quick math, I got married and became a mom very young and that put a temporary halt on my horse dreams. But, FINALLY, when I turned 30 hubby said "go ahead". That is when I realized that although I had been riding all my life I didn't know a danged thing about taking care of a horse. So, I met a woman about a half hour away who bred Arabians and leased her mares for riding and/or breeding. I decided to start out by leasing, to hopefully avoid getting a horse and then thinking 'I didn't know it was gonna be like this'. I began leasing a gorgeous mare named AK Bint Bahrouse. We clicked like it was meant to be. The woman who owned her really took me under her wing and became my horse management mentor lol, as well as my closest friend. About 3 months after starting to lease AK, I had fallen in love with her yearling grandson Amistad and purchased him. My first horse YAY! Well, in the long run I couldn't stand the thought of someone coming along and taking AK away from me so I bought her as well lol. She was the world for me, and for 4 1/2 years AK and I spoiled and taught each other. Then on Oct. 17, 2004, when AK was 23, my world turned upside down when I got that early morning phone call that AK had taken a misstep while galloping the fields with her buddies and had broken her leg. God decided we had been spoiled enough by her presence and it was time to call her home . In the meantime, I had been working with my gelding and over the course of 2 years I backed him myself (yay me)!! Right around his 4th birthday I got on him for the first time. What a rush! He is a spoiled brat, definitely a mama's boy lol, and my bestest buddy . He is such a trip. My life is currently going through some big changes. I am a Machine Repairman for Daimler Chrysler. Last May I was put in the Job Bank, and as a requirement of the Job Bank I was able to arrange to do volunteer work for 40 hours a week for my usual pay check. WELL...it just so happens that the farm I have been speaking of, and where Amistad is boarded, also has a non-profit organization that does equine assisted psychotherapy. Yes, I am in heaven!! 5 1/2 days a week I feed, muck stalls, do barn and property maintenance, and exercise 11 horses, including my own. The other day and a half I am going back to school for a Graphic Design degree since I doubt Chrysler will ever call me back and they will pay for my education in the meantime. Since the beginning of December and until the middle of April the farm owner is at her winter home in Arizona, so I am literally doing everything. Talk about practice for having my own farm!! But I LOVE it!! I am seriously considering leasing one of the maiden mares to breed this spring. If I do, I will sell the foal as it will be purely for the experience of breeding and, just as when I leased AK, to make sure I don't go full-tilt into something only to realize it isn't what I thought it would be. Which of course means I will probably fall in love with the foal lol. So that is my story , thanks for reading! Here are some pics:

Hi There, My name is Tiffay. I've been riding for 5 & 1/2 years. I rode western when I was 4 for about a year. I rode a 4 y/o QH Gelding named Diablo. I just alked, and did poles. After I moved at the age of 6 I didn't ride for a long time. I've loved horses ever since I knew what one was. I starting riding English at a hunter/jumper barn in my area, but I just rode schoolies and other horses there. I've competed at local hunter shows, and at the Canadian National Exhibition. After 4 years of riding I finally got my own horse Percy. He was a 4y/o, black percheron/thoroughbred cross. He had 30days training and could walk trot. After looking at many horses privately, we decided to try the auction and found him there. I've had him for just over a year now and hes the love of my life. I've gone though a lot of struggles with him, good times and bad but we've come a long way since I got him,but still have a long way to go. I also have a cat, named Penny who I've had for 11 years. I'm 16 years old, about to get my G2 ( finally, I can drive!! lol) and I live with both my parents. I'd love to have a career such as a large animal vet,vet tech, equine massage therapist. I love animals, and would love to be part of an organization to help those who've been abused, and mistreated. Thats about all I can tell you about myself, any questions, ask. this is my boy,Percy and myself, don't mind the hairdo, it was christmas morning:P

Great idea SBL! I'm Michelle, (Shelly to my close friends and family) and I'm from Pittsburgh, PA. I'm 38 (will be 39 in 11 days) and I've been married to Dave for almost 5 years, although we've been together for 10. I'm a Supervisor of a Case Management program that works with children and adults with Mental Health and behavior problems. My husband installs 911 radios in fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, etc. right now, but he may soon be accepting a position to work for one of our local Emergency Helicopter companies, Stat MediVac. We are both volunteer firefighters, although I have been on inactive duty since the birth of our daughter. We are the proud parents of a 3 year old daughter, Emilee. We have been trying for #2 for the past two years, but with no luck. (I sufffered a miscarriage at 12 weeks last Feb.) I am also Mama to a 95lb Dalmatian named Rescue and a tabby cat that used to be named Ashes, but Emilee has changed it to "Bad Cat" because she is MEAN!
I, like most of you, have loved horses all my life, and was quite active with Quarter Horses before I went to college. Always wanted to show, but never did. Took lessons, but other things always got in the way. Now, my daughter has a passion for horses and I am fortunate enough to have a great friend who is very experienced in the Western show world who has agreed to start her off. She shows with a barn who has an AWESOME trainer that I have known for a long time. I am so happy to get Emilee into it and I will be starting lessons again soon, too. The first time she got on George (the horse she will be riding), I thought she would be afraid. She's ridden little ponies many times, but he's 15.3 and is a LONG way up for a 3 year old! But, when my friend started leading him around, she said "This is great!" and I had to pry her legs off of him when we were done! Yep! I think she will be fine in Leadline shows! We will be using my friend's horse as long as we can, and then go from there. We will definately have to board once we get our own. There is no room here at all for horses. Maybe someday! If I win the lottery, that is!

OK my turn.. My name is Robin I'm 33 and I live in Maine. I'm married and have a wonderful 10 year old son. Unlike most of you I do not have a horse and have not ridden in about 10 years. I LOVE horses and wish I could ride and my dream is to someday own one. I had a pony when I was young and was on it every second I could be. When I was 13 I was thrown and suffered a concussion. At that point my mom got rid of my pony. I have a 9 year old niece who is a horse fanatic. She has been taking lessons and will start showing this summer. I can't wait to watch her. She has now been hounding me to buy her a horse, because the one she has been riding is up for sale. She told her mom "we'll ask aunt Robin to buy it, she's always wanted a horse." Trying to explain to a 9 year old how expensive it would be is not easy. So right now I'm "mean Aunt Robin....lol She is the one who actually told me about this website, she watches it all the time. And now for the last two months I feel as though every spare sec. I have I'm staring at this screen. I do own two cats and a salt water reef tank. I just want to thank everyone for allowing us to watch your mares. This is a wonderful experience and give me a chance to at least view the horses and learn about their different personalities and enjoy them.

I moved this from the general section. I should have posted it here. I've been lurking for awhile but decided to introduce myself. I have been watch every day for weeks now, saw a few births and presently have six minimized on my screen. Yes, I'm an addict. I have been talking to Heather about hooking our foalcam up and am just waiting for the arrival of a cable I ordered weeks ago from the States. I'm trying to be patience but it's not going so well. My husband and I own a small farm called High Meadow Quarter Horses located in Nova Scotia, Canada. We have a buckskin QH stallion, red dun QH mare, palomino QH mare, dunalino QH filly and a red dun Paint mare. We usually breed one or two of our own mares and a couple outside mares each year. We both barrel race and pole bend and if we have a free weekend from that we go team penning. We also enjoy trail riding and in the spring my husband puts on a few clinics. Our first mare that is due is a palomino who was bred when we bought her in September. The sire of the baby is Playin Pep from Florida. She's due February 27th. Since it's her first foal and it's so bitter cold here we have started leaving her in. She's not impressed about that but I'm not taking any chances. The second mare is bred to our stallion and due March 31st. This is her forth foal so I *think* I'll be able to tell when she's close. My husband and I both work outside the home so I'm thrilled to be able to watch the mares while at work. Here is a link to our website if you'd like to have a look. The first mare due is HollywoodCresentMoon ('Holly') and the second is Two Smoke Hollywood ('Two Bit'). highmeadowqhs.tripod.comI'm looking forward to spending lots of time here. Judy

My name is Laura Golden. I have been a horse fanatic for as long as I can remember. I started formal riding lessons at the age of 8. I am now 48, so thats a total of 40 years of having horses under my butt & in my heart I was given my first horse at 12 years old, and haven't been with out one in my life since I have had many different trainers in my life, and had been fortunate to learn many things about working & training equine.
I started showing English Hunt Seat at 10 yo, and have shown off and on since. I guess my biggest accomplishment in the show ring was retraining my Thoroughbred mare Ange to compete in the High Schooling Jumpers, and winning the high point at my saddle club in 1998. I have owned Ange 17 years, she just turned 21 yo this January. That is our picture to the left. For the past 20 years I have specialized in training children's riding mounts, and the gentle starting of young horses & ponies. I am also now breeding a few miniature horses. I have 1 stud, Golden's Little Dude, and 2 brood mare, Cookie & Goldie. I have sold our first two foals, and still have last years from Cookie; Golden's Little Fire Fly. He will stay here until he is 2 yo, and is to be trained for a small child's lead line pony ;D I have been married to Marcus for nearly 12 years. I am a mother of 2 girls, Julianne is 26, and Cheyenne is 11yo. I am now living my dream and have my own farm, Golden's Pony Farm, in the North Georgia Tri State area. goldenspony.com is our self made web page. My other interests are Cheyenne's soccer, fishing on our boat, going to the lake, snow skiing, and NASCAR!!!!! [Jimmie Johnson 2006 Nextel Cup Champion!] I have two ponds. One is full of Sarasses Gold Fish, the other is a Koi pond that we just finished last summer for my birthday and of course Mare Stare ;D We have 8 cats, 2 big dogs, 4 chickens, and 8 horses. Ange a 21 yo TB mare, Little Big Man a 9 yo Appaloosa, Little Raskel a 8 yo Welsh pony, Flip's Golden Rajah my turning 3 yo American Appendix Horse, and our 4 minis. My sweetest baby is 2 yo Dusty my Pomeranian . I take him where ever I go, even deep sea fishing! I am also very close to getting my new puppy Cricket, and black pom ;D can't wait!!!!!!
