Since we are all conversing here on the Mare Stare board while watching the mares, and it's kind of like family around here, I thought it might be nice for everyone to get to know a little something about everyone they are conversing with on the board. So, feel free to tell as much, or as little here as you wish about yourself! You can even post a picture of yourself... if you dare!!
I'll start it off! My real name is Deidre, and I've ridden and shown horses for over 18 years. A my screen name suggests, my passion is for American Saddlebreds! I don't have any currently, as it's so expensive having and maintaining show horses. I'm taking lessons at my former trainer's and doing some trail riding weekly with a friend, so I get plenty of 'horsey' time. ;D This is my 3rd year on Mare Stare, and I've seen over 1000 foalings on cam (yes, I'm an extreme addict! ). You can usually find me cruising the boards or hanging out in the chat room. Come by and chat with us sometime!

Hi Everyone, My name is Debi (Chero) from mid-michigan, love horses, had them later in life when my hubby and I joined the Countys Sheriff Posse, and my daughter was into 4H so I formed a group to share the experience with many kids that were at the barn we boarded at and otherwise wouldnt have had the opportunity to be part of the 4H family, some of the kids were less fortunate so we shared our horses and my daughters show clothes so that they were part of everything. It was a great time for me, but now am loving my lil grandson who is four and his mom (my daughter) and her hubby are into the rodeo lifestyle and he loves riding his brahma bull (like those old horsey things we got as kids ages ago) will post a pic he's so serious about his riding....lol. And I spend time with hubby and our "baby" Cheyenne, my rescued ACD (blue heeler). I have two season that gets my blood flowing....Nascar and foaling! So I stay close to my puter alot before bed or keep my laptop handy when not at home to watch the mares.

Hi I am Annette (Nettie) from Silhouette Park in Australia. We breed Miniature Horses.. we have bred part arabians up until now but are having a total dispersal as I am unable to keep up with them anymore (minor disability). I do have two mares in foal but they are likely to be sold before foaling. Anyhow. I am 25 years old and am loving being a part of MareStare. I show miniature horses and do some mini horse training to pay the bills. I will have around 10 mini foals due end of August - December this year all on cam One mare is maiden. I have bred 5 foals this season (our first foal "Buttons" sadly crossed the rainbow bridge recently ) I am not sure what else to tell about me..lol. I love my horses.. I am very passionate about everything to do with them. Proud as punch. The only horse we are retaining from our part arabian breeding program is the first foal we bred "Tzar" he is a pally gelding and he has my heart.. we are in sync with each other its just amazing. He was recently broken in by a very special cowboy for me and I am so thrilled with him. I have posted a couple of photos in the photo section of him. Nettie

well i guess it's my turn..... my name's alicia and i'm a 16 year old equine-obsessed girl. most of you know my horsey counterpart mollie who i haved owned for almost 5 years now!!!!! although most of you know adventures mollie and i have had, i don't think i've posted about how we came together. before owning mollie, i was the proud owner of a fiery red chestnut arabian gelding CF Rubicon or Red. he was awesome when i first bought him willing to walk and trot around the arena as a pleased. however, once i started to ask more of him, he became an out of control monster. He spooked at anything and everything and once he spooked he was GONE. i had several falls off him and became completely petrified. needless to say, i sold Red after almost 2 years of owning him. He now happily resides in Massachusetts and gets ridden 3+ hours a day and EXCELS in endurance racing :-) So, when we began a search for a new horse i was looking for a 10-15 year old gelding who i could regain my confidence on. i, along with my family and trainer, searched almost every weekend for 6 months to find my new "dream" horse. We found several that were close but there was always one thing or another that kept me from saying "that's the one". the first weekend in march of 2002, i was riding in a clinic with jane ayers at a barn in New Hampshire that belonged to a close friend of my trainer. once there, my trainer said she knew someone who knew someone with a 4 year old Quarter Horse mare for sale. my grandmother immediately said no but because i was always willing to give a horse a shot, i insisted we go to visit her. well little miss mollie was located about 10 minutes from the barn we were at and as soon as i walked into that tiny, dark barn and saw the scrawny mare with almost no tail and a unique blaze, i was in love. my grandmother was still extremely hesitant about the situation but what was the harm? after all i was in love with this horse and i hadn't even seen her take a step yet!! at this point i was a confident rider in walk/trot/canter and was becoming extremely interested in dressage. so, when i found out mollie rode in a HUGE western saddle and bridle i was a bit out of my comfort zone. her owner got on her first and i realized there were about 3 tie-downs on this poor little mare who could only canter by bracing herself against them. however, as soon as i sat in that saddle, i knew mollie would be making the 3 hour trailer ride home.
mollie did come home with us (an agonizing 2 weeks later!!!!) and transitioned into english riding pretty well. now, her serious dressage training has started and she is coming along quite nicely. we're training 2nd level and are hoping to finally get out there and show 1st level this coming season. we are still extremely clost (as much as she pretends not to love me :-) ) we've had MANY ups and downs but i'll save those for another post as this one has become quite lengthy. hope you've enjoyed our story!!

Post by Kelly's Draft Horse Wishes on Feb 13, 2007 20:35:21 GMT -5
Hi! My name is Kelly, and my husband (who is the love-of-my-life!) and I (along with our two daughters) live in central Florida. I have had mostly Morgans and Saddlbreds (ridden Saddle Seat)...and I had an absolute BLAST for all those years, but I am done with the thrill rides!!! I find the ground is not quite as soft now that I'm 40 and consequently, I'm done with the "act-now, think-later" mentality (this was, in fact, my Saddlebred's motto that he held near and dear to his heart well into his golden years!!!) Our next horse will weigh a ton! We are considering which of the draft breeds will suit our life-style best. We are leaning towards Belgians, but I have to say I really like the Percherons. It's exciting to contemplate all the possibilities!!! I'm looking for an experienced gelding broke to ride and drive - and a people-horse...I just have to have that personality. Let's see...I have a background in Music Education, but I ended up working in the medical field (I manage an Infertility Practice) for the last 15 years...and my husband teaches European History in an IB program. We have several non-horse members in our house-hold, they are: British Shorthair (Blue), RumTum Tugger British Shorthair (black) Forests Black Frost, aka Frosty Our Welsh Corgi (Pembroke), Cheers! And, of all my horses, this was my horse of a lifetime - my Morgan, JL's Leading Act One (aka Pogo for his bone-jarring trot!) And last, but never least, My darling Papillon, Ch The Right Stuff, aka "Stuff" (1992 -2006) We also have a salhoo hooer aquarium filled with various $$$ fish! Pictures to come

Hi guys My name's Tomann (yes, that's my real name)...I'm 22 and from NW PA, Cooperstown to be exact but my profile says Edinboro because that's where I'm living while I go to college. I live with my fiance and tuxedo cat kitten...both are nuts, but I love them anyways I've grown up around horses all my life. My grandpa used to be the only owner of Percherons in our area, but now there are a few people in our county with them. I did 4-H for 10 years, showing a Percheron mare, Ludi May (she was my best friend growing up and I miss her like crazy, especially when things get tough), and an Appy (just for 2 years though). I was trained western pleasure, but recently started taking lessons at a nearby stable to learn how to ride hunt seat. I don't own my own horse, but like I said earlier, my grandpa has some and he lives just a mile from my parents (they live in the middle of nowhere and he lives on the dirt road named after his dad). I'm very close with my 7 and 4 year old cousins, both look up to me for some odd reason...I'm a ditz, but I love to make them laugh. Anyways, I have a passion for drafts. I'm barely 5'2'', 108 lbs, but I love the expression of "holy cow, how can such a little girl handle such a big horse?!" My older cousin shows all of the horses that my grandpa takes to the fair and I've always been the underdog because they never gave me the chance (and because I'm so much smaller than her). I love being around horses and have found that they are therapy for me since I have ADHD. Being around them is much cheaper than the meds and have better results. Sorry for writing so much...I just want to fit in on here...

My name is Stephanie and I'm 40-ish years old, have 20 yr old daughter, Aussies (dogs), cats, and Arabian horses. I have been around horses all my life and for the most part, horses have been my family. I have a degree in microbiology, training at the graduate level in equine reproduction and animal surgery, and multiple hobbies including sewing, drawing, reading, and a few other odds and ends. LOL I currently manage a medium-sized breeding operation that I used to own, but several issues made it necessary to bring in other investors. They are absolutely stellar people though and I am thoroughly enjoying my life with the horses. We are breeding for the sabino pattern in the purebred Arabian, without compromising the quality of the animals. ;D Below is a photo of myself with a colt that we delivered to his new home.

I am Allison, in Abbotsford, BC Canada. I have been in to horses since I was six, and I will be 27 this year, so it's been a while! I started breeding in 2003 with my first foals in 2004, so this will be our fourth year of foaling. I breed Friesian horses. We originally had 4 mares due to foal this year but recently lost one of our broodmares to colic, so we are now expecting three foals, one in March, one in May, and one in June. I also run a mare care service to foal out other peoples' horses, so we will definately have some more mares on camera throughout the year. Some of my horses... This is Ourenske H, my coming 19 year old mare, and her 2006 filly. This is Liskje fan e' Sjongedyk, our newly imported mare. This is Shera, one of my older broodmares, her 2005 colt Solomon MF, and his buddy Random MF. And this is Renske Welmoed, the mare we just lost to colic surgery. She is greatly missed.

Hi - My name really is Kaja and my husband's is Bubba. Besides our 3 big human kids, we have a bunch of draft crosses and some TBs plus the mandatory dogs and cats! We breed one or two draft crosses a year and foxhunt as often as we can get out. I am new on this board and just registered today but have been watching everyone's mares foaling the past few weeks. Our Belgian/TB mare is due May 2nd and our Perch/TB mare is due June 8th. I get so impatient and excited anticipating their foaling ~ it is like therapy watching everyone else's mares foaling! Thanks so much for sharing all your experiences with us!

My name is Brittany and my husband's name is Dan. We have two kids 4yr old Haylie, and 6 1/2yr old Cameron. We own 3 horses but also care for my mothers 17yr old POA gelding whom my daughter will learn to ride this year. We primarily have paints but we also have my first horse who is a 24yr old Arabian gelding. I have owned horses since I was 13 and my husband has been around him his entire life. Currently I am 26 and he is 30. He is a meat cutter at our local grocery store but before that he worked for Fred Meyer (Kroger) and was their meat manager. I am a caregiver for a local company for in home care. I primarily compete in Open shows with my palomino overo mare, however we have started doing the Extreme Trail Races and she is awesome at it. We sit on 20 acres here and have two natural ponds on our back property. We have two dogs, a Heelur and a weiner mutt! We have 7 cows with 4 of them due to calf this spring. This is a picture of me and my palomino overo mare taken in 05. This is my 24yr old Arabian gelding Topik, the first time he saw my colt this last week.
