How horrific! The replays were grusome and the diagnosis doesn't look good. I hope he will heal and be able to be a breeding stallion. Vet said a fracture above and below his fetlock and if blood supply is compromised...bleak prognosis. Pray for all his equine and human family....

:'(I watched the race, and was so sad to see him hurt I hope he becomes sound enough to be a stud. I bet he could make some nice babies. I really wished I could have been there to say how sorry I was for them to have to pull him out of racing Praying for a fast recovery for barbaro

I missed the race by like 30 minutes...if only we had left the show grounds earlier...I turned on the tv but all they were showing was the replay of the winner...anyone know where I can find the replay of Barbero by chance?

There are hardly enough words to express how badly I personally feel about Barbaro's tragic situation. He was only three years old, and now in so much pain and stress He will defiantly be on all our minds for quite sometime. I'm hoping for anything positive to come out of all this Rest assured that the best possibly Veterinarians are there to help heal Barbaro so he can be reasonably comfortable the rest of his life

Well this is what diagnosis says...
He broke that right hind ankle in two places one above the ankle and one below the ankle. A friend of mind works for the vets office that is working on him as an intern and she says that everyone is absolutely devastated... But, he is handling everything like a champion, as they said on the news he did not move while he was being checked out and that will be critical to recovery, he will go into surgery soon.
please pray for him and all his connections, what a awful thing to happen to what everyone knew was a SUPER HORSE!
God Bless, and God SPEED!

This has been one of the most heartbreaking days in horse racing history, and in the horse world in general. We've been discussing this over at HorseCity since it happened - and I've been trying to keep up with the updates and scouring the internet for every bit of news I can find. I have been praying all night for Barbaro, and I am hoping that he makes it through the surgery OK tomorrow. Of course the real test will be the recovery and how he handles that. I am crying for his racing career, as I felt all along that he was almost a sure bet to win the Triple Crown, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will be spared and maybe even be able to go on to create lots of babies to carry on his amazing legacy. And h2opony, I have to ask if you can please keep us updated with your "connection." Also, please have her pass along our condolences if you can. We are all rallying over at the HorseCity boards, wanting to send cards of sympathy, etc. But we don't know where to send them. Some of us have sent e-mails to Fair Hill Training Center in the interim. Either way, thank you h2opony for the inside track - and Barbaro and everyone associated with him will be in my thoughts and prayers for a long time to come. What a truly sad day this is for the entire horse community.

Told my daughters instructor about Barbaro and she told me of another horse who sustained almost the exact same injury six weeks ago whilst running free in his own pasture. The horse belonged to a friend of hers and used to come to her occasionally for a "tune up" when he was getting a bit sassy with his owner ( he's Arab/Quarter Horse X)
Finton(the horse) has a plaster cast on, which has been changed twice now ( due to some swelling that was compromising blood flow) and has been stabled permenantly since his accident. Luckily he is the type of horse who thrives on being pampered and loved on and enjoys nothing better than being in the stables all day. He is now starting to weight bear a little on that leg so all fingers are crossed for his continued recovery. The vet has said the xrays show that it is starting to knit . If it heals ok he will only be a pasture companion but should remain pretty much pain free although he may develop artheritis in the joint earlier than most horses normally would.
Praying that the scenario will be similar for Barbaro.

cbs3.com/video/?id=26455@kyw.dayport.com This is a link to Michael Matz recent media brief... you can tell how much destraught he is... almost seems like he is beside himself, which is believable since he lost his Olympic horse Grande, due to overtraining at the Olympics, i can only imagine what he is going through, what an awful nightmare, because of Grande's tragic death this was his reason for resting Barbaro for an unorthodox 5 weeks, he simply didnt want to relive such a moment..,, As for my connection she said that the office and the connections to barbaro are overwhelmed with all the condolences, prayers, etc from people around the world and encourage to keep them coming. They are supposed to be setting up a barbaro fund here soon, and she says she will send me contact info as soon as its available. As for Barbaro himself, she said he has been the dream patient. Never acting up and completely polite about everything and anything being done to him. A couple of the vets there can believe how well he is dealing with the pain despite the pain meds, two fractures is hard for a horse to live with. With all thoroughbreds, who are born to run, and especially a Super Horse like barbaro, its hard to not think about what the recovery process might do to his mind, spirit, and heart. He truly loved to run, and be a pure bred thoroughbred. He is in the best of hands though, and they will do what is best for this wonderful animal. Everyone knows how special he is. I will keep all of you updated! Please send prayers and positive thoughts his way.... this is going to be along process. He will go under the knife tomorrow (i guess now this is this afternoon) according to the video in the link above! God Speed to Barbaro, America's super horse!
